    The best awnings ?

Those awnings must not have been put up right or not inflated enough.

Fuel Hose and the dreaded E10

Been using the 100% hose for a few years now and it’s been fine, no cracking etc. I found the R9 hose cracked after a short time even with petrol before the new E10 fuel.

    The best awnings ?

For me the airbeam awnings are the best. Takes very little effort and time to set up and take down. I’ve got the Vango Kela (low) which is a good size, not small but not too big either. There is a bedroom option as well although my daughter wanted a separate tent at the recent Cambridge folk...

    Fuel in crank case.

A fuel cut off solenoid might help as this will stop fuel draining into carbs and then into the engine. However you need to check the fuel pressure as well when the engine is running, to make sure it’s not too high. I don’t know what the recommended pressure is for your carbs, but for 34ICT’s it...

    Right coil for 123 dissy.

I don’t think that will be the cause of your problems. 🧐 However I do think you should hook up the vac advance as the dissy is designed to work with this signal and will make acceleration smoother.

    Right coil for 123 dissy.

When you say no vacuum advance, do you mean you are not using the vacuum port on the 123 dissy? I am sure I can see a vacuum port in your picture unless my eyes deceive me.

    How often ?

Been away 5 or 6 times so far this year. Unfortunately this year I don’t have a big European adventure planned but hopefully next year we will do a trip. One of my favourite things to take is citrus tea light candles especially in Scotland as they help keep the mozzies and flies at bay.

Have a read of this article. Your starter may just need a clean up. http://www.vw-resource.com/car_wont_start.html

    Sitting issues

The worst weather we had was at Dent for the music festival in 2012. Hadn’t had the van very long then. My wife and younger daughter and I attempted to set up the awning whilst the storm was raging, and a gust of wind lifted it up and snapped one of the joints! It was a khayam’quick’ erect...

    Monty the Red Campervan

Thanks for the info. I will see how it goes and may fit a hose to the top of the carb filter. The previous set up i had the hose fitted to the base of the filter and it dripped oil and made a mess.

I’ll see how it works and may change back if I want to. 👍

Whatever happened to my 1969 Earl Bay?

Good mod adding the Litesteer, it’s made driving my bus so much easier! I’ve heard about Latebays rusting more than Earlybays. I think the steel was better in the earlier vehicles.

Oil change time. I also decided to try a billet ally oil filler, and removed the stock filler. Hope the VW gods are not too dismayed with the change! 😅 I used the Empi tool to remove the stock filler and it worked well. I hope the new mini filter stays in one piece as the last one came apart...

    Île de Ré

Lovely pic of the Porsche. We went to Ile de Re a few years ago and really enjoyed it. In fact I love the French west coast altogether !

    Engine running rough

Try taking a plug lead off to see if the engine note changes. If one cylinder isn’t getting a spark there won’t be any change in the sound.

A few days camping at the Cambridge Folk Festival. Weather was great until Sunday afternoon when the rain started. Good excuse to hit the beer tent though 😀 I thought the bands this year were the best line up I’ve seen.

    carb jetting

I had an old progressive carb on my first engine for 8 years and it was ok. I had an 009 dissy. I rigged up a pipe from the warm air scoop intake up to the air filter on the carb. I think this helped a bit in colder weather. I also added an electric choke which was really awkward to do as it...
