How concerned should I be ?

Recently picked up and old-ish 2 burner camping stove (Waller Engineering Ltd.) for use in the awning/outside. Works a treat but since the burner caps were a bit rusty I thought I would dismantle them and paint with bbq spray paint , so far so good. When I get it apart I noticed that at the...

So what engine option do I go for?

Hmm I would say option 2) but only if you go the stock route and are not tempted by the glittery bits (new go-faster cam kits etc..). As soon as you go non-stock the build gets trickier (valve rocker geometry, deck height setting etc.. and the costs rocket (ask me how I know..). Keep it stock...

    Towing a small car?

Not directly relevant but in the 60's my father sometimes helped out one of the last privateer F1 drivers (Bob Anderson), they toured the European circuits with the car and all the kit and caboodle on a Splitty pickup ! Apparently some of the Alpine hill descents were a bit hair-raising(single...

    Vacuum connection ICT 34

OK had it apart tonight * Shaft play perceptible but small a couple of thou, four maybe .. * Lobes seem good no wear ridge from the points * Weights well lubricated - still a good covering of original factory brownish grease I think. Points plate though a real pain to get out and worse to get...

    Vacuum connection ICT 34

My bus has an 009 at present which I've had no real issues with, however I also have in a box another dissy I fancy trying out (043 905 205) http://www.oldvolkshome.com/ignition.htm#A1974MFD. Do people think it's ok to make a vacuum connection by T-ing into my balance pipe that runs between the...

    flexible flue pipe supplier

Hi do I guess from this post you are ducting fridge flue exhaust somewhere other than through a hole in the side of your van ? I have a gas fridge (well 2 as it happens) but they lay dormant cos I can't bring myself to cut a hole in the side of the bus. If you have an alternative idea do...

Engine's out - now the silly questions

RE: gearbox shaft seal. I just changed mine last night - looks easy enough for sure, but I couldn't budge the old one an so I asked for tips on VZi and Moby came up with a good trick - screw some self-tappers into the metal-rim of the old seal. OK so far so good (although I used a battery...

    Glasto

As a low-cost alternative this festival has a great atmosphere plus reasonable priced ale, no queing for the khazi etc.. etc.. I have been for the past 4 or 5 years cos I can pushbike there from my house (well I could but they moved it 10 miles this year (pant..) - always enough on to keep me...

    Leak advice

Hi All Took the engine out this weekend to check the fuel tank breathers following complaints of smell from Mrs Stan. Guess what - all breather links (braided pieces about 2 inches long) in tact and secure :? Anyway while the engine was out I spotted a fair pool of oil under the clutch...

Thinking of Testing the Water / gauging the interest

Well, I don't know any of you guys personally, just the odd exchange here. But I do know that everyone's personal situation changes. When I bought my van in 96 it was for a bit of fun and so my (then) girlfriend and I wouldn't argue about who was driving to the party/festival or WHY. I wasn't...

How do you remove / refit the cam gear from the crank?

Rather than heat-up with engine oil ( at bitsmelly which annoys the mem-saab), I used normal cooking oil (Spry crisp and dry, you know the sort of thing..). For removal I use a cheap-ish Draper 3 leg puller that I filed down the 'feet' of to fit behind the gear. JS

    ICT 34 adjustments

Hi Sparky Mine was a redline kit on a 1776 so not set-up too bad I think. Of course before I fitted them I did write down the jet sizes but naturally I've lost the piece of paper! These idles (60s) are the originals so it's not quite as CF van spec. I've read some of Lauries advice on Vzi so...

    ICT 34 adjustments

Hi all Thanks for the replies. I did a plug chop after a decent run/quick stop and the electrode was nice and brownish. However at idle it still looks/smells rich. The pump is stock newish Brosol. I was going to order some 55 idles anyway but perhaps I could try a regulator - is 3 PSI the...
