Hi All
Took the engine out this weekend to check the fuel tank breathers following
complaints of smell from Mrs Stan. Guess what - all breather links (braided pieces
about 2 inches long) in tact and secure :?
Anyway while the engine was out I spotted a fair pool of oil under the clutch thrust/release
bearing which looks like its from the gear input shaft seal. A common issue ? Should be
a straightforward replacement right ?
Also there was some weeping on the top of the engine by the split joint under fan shroud partly
- flywheel end. I can't see for sure where it's coming from but the split joint seems likely
although the oil tidemark is over to one side (blown by the fan ?). My worst fear is that there could be a
case crack although none is visible. I did read that playing a blow-torch over a suspect area
can cause residual oil to bubble through any suspected cracks to reveal its presence (or not).
Has anyone tried this trick ?
Half of me says to leave it since the leak is pretty minor, in fact I probably would
even if it is worst case scenario since I have no time or money to rebuild the engine with or
without a new case.
Cheers all
