Lowering my 68 Westy and up rating brakes

Just to add my 2p. I have recently put the fellows speed shop kit on. It keeps wide five and bolts straight on to the drum spindles it also has the advantage of being able to swap to Porsche pattern easily thanks to the stud hub design. I find the braking really responsive the the pedal...

1969 RHD Devon - I must be mad

Thanks nearly there now. It is indeed a Volkswares bed. Think measurements I used were 145cm x 53cm, 145cm x 45cm, 155cm x 90cm, then got some memory foam to those dimensions square off eBay, then cut perfectly to size with a sharp kitchen knife. Then the covering is stretch poly/cotton fabric...

1969 RHD Devon - I must be mad

Hopefully will get pictures of brochure sorted tomorrow/ the weekend. Got some new Michelin tyres on for the winter as we use the van all year round and didn’t really trust the cheapo ones that were on there in the wet. Fellows brakes still looking good as well

    Electric Ignition, Yes or No?

I have an accuspark unit that I put in after asking a similar question on here back in Feb. Hasn’t missed a beat since running much smoother, tried the accuspark coil but felt it ran better with a decent Bosch one. Plus with the price difference between that and the Petronix kit I keep a spare...

1969 RHD Devon - I must be mad

Been a busy summer of using van for our wedding, rear door opening on way to said wedding and dropping a few bottles of wine over the south circular. Plus a few stiches in the end of finger trying to pick them up [emoji23] A few winter upgrades Plus a shiny new transporterhaus beam and...

    Mechanical brake light switch?

Going to do that, but even with a new pressure switch not sure that it will solve the issue - wondering if that could ever be as fast at coming on as a mechanical switch? It may just be that one of my pressure switch's is kaput, but I get a fair amount of brake pedal travel/amount of pressure...

    Mechanical brake light switch?

Yeah that makes a lot of sense, then just a case of making sure its waterproof I guess. Just been doing some googling and a guy has done a similar thing on the samba https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=7964822 Although this uses a switch from a chevvy which doesn't look like its...

    Mechanical brake light switch?

Hello My brake lights take a long time to come on i.e. they only come on when applying a lot of pressure to the brakes, often when driving in stop start traffic etc, they will often not come on at all at lower pressures. I adjust the brakes (still drums all round) regularly, although switching...

Twin carbs for Single Point engine... Help!

I have the above kit on my single port mostly fit and forget as long as you get the jetting right for your engine. Mine were jetted for my engine and I don't have pressure reg and seems ok without (just done 2year stripservice on carbs and are as new), although may add a malpassi soon for a...

    electronic ignition

Thanks for advice all, some scrabbling and poking around at the weekend, checked the valve clearances, fitted the accuspark (lots of swearing at the rubber cable grommet) and woke most the neighbors on our street checking the timing, very noticeable difference super smooth idling and starting.

1970 EB DC - The Dirty Diesel

Bolted mine on as well, had it welded on but came off after a year and a half. I guess welding means less rust potential as no holes to outside world but defo easier bolted... with lots of sealer :D

    electronic ignition

Sorry this has probably been done to death... Planning on putting electronic bits into my 009 distributor and a new coil etc. My points are ok but would like to not have to adjust them, and the consistent better starting. Accuspark vs petronix, are petronix really worth the extra £££, as...

1969 RHD Devon - I must be mad

Busy day doing mostly boring stuff some servicing, brakes adjusted and leads sparks replaced and carbs cleaned and a couple of service kits on. Being indecisive about fitting petronix innards to my distributor or stick with servicing points. Also tried out some whitewall paint on the old...

    Battery or alternator kaput ?

Sounds like you could have some voltage drop somewhere. This could be poor wiring, earth or the alternator regulator/brushes (most likely IMHO). You should be getting around the 14v mark at the battery with lights on and engine running. I put a new alternator (with internal regulator) on...
