    Spot the problem

I think a few people have had issues with horseshoe plates snapping bolts, one of those people will be able to confirm though! Its a rather large bolt to drill out is that, I would probably try taking the hub off and cutting a slot in the centre with a small disc on a dremel. It should turn out...

    Engine temp

Boil some water and check the sender in it. This will give you a Delta to work from when you read the gauge. The location of the gauge also makes a difference, up to 10-15c of variation. Typically they run at about 90-95c, and mineral oil doesn't start to break down until around 120c (ref...

    Vintage Speed Shifter problem

Take it off and clean the threads, apply a medium strength thread lock to the thread and lightly around the lower part of the shaft where the locknut bore sits. Tighten it all back up pretty tight and leave to dry, I did that with mine when I got it a couple of months ago and all has been fine...

    Window winders

MCJ billet ones.. 80 odd quid though! Fifttsixdeluxe do some fairly substantial ones too, they just don't look as nice as the MCJ ones in my opinion. They are only about £35 I think though. Sent from my C55 using Tapatalk

Earlybay Camp Out 23/4 April 2016-Banbury BOOKING SITE OPEN

Large BBQ would be good, I guess most would be BBQ'ing anyway! Count me in for a sticker if you get some sorted. Seen the post on FB about drum fire pits too, will bring mine along if the site are OK with them and if anyone doesn't have a fire pit but wants to chill around round a fire on the...

    Service parts - Bosch?

Hi, I'm not sure its worth spending the money on Bosch parts, they are all made in mexico/Brazil etc now anyway so the quality is on par with everyone else. I bought these leads from eBay, http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=121089877819&alt=web" onclick="window.open(this.href);return...

    Pitman arm removal

I've not tried to remove the pitman arm from my steering box.. But have you tried giving it a clout whilst under tension from the puller? Sent from my C55 using Tapatalk

    Solenoid cable

2.5mm^2 I presume you mean? Sounds about right. Black is live when ignition is on for these buses and other air cooled VW's. Red is for permanently live as far as I'm aware. Not that it matters in all honesty, but sticking with the same colours may help you trace faults or the next owner...

    Exhaust

If you can't find any to fit, could you fit a small section of the corrugated aluminum or stainless tube? I don't have an exhaust with those fittings on, but I know I had exactly the same issue on my old beetle but never resolved it. Sent from my C55 using Tapatalk

    Rear tailgate locking mechanism

I had the sane thing on mine if I've understood you correctly. Does the lock actually touch the mechanism when you press the button? Mine wasn't even close. So I put a small screw and bolt through the hole in the actuating lever so that the lock button would reach and thus open the door. Sent...

    34 ict jetting help

Have you spoken to eurocarb? They should be able to give you a ball park. I've got a 57 idle and 150 main fitted on my 1600. So at a guess I think your talking min 60 idle, and a similar or slightly larger main, mine is a bit rich at 150. Sent from my C55 using Tapatalk

I'm going to the Spa GP this year, if anyone else is going.. Looking forward to it! Although I've gone all out for the tickets with full weekend gold stand 1 seats! Sent from my C55 using Tapatalk

What do you want from a show?

All the things that have been discussed are good points. As you have said, air cooled only show and shine but let all those in with a VW for camping. Maybe consider a dedicated air cooled only camping area, so those who like the company of those in the old school scene can camp in that area...

    Fuel hose specification.

As already explained by gas1man R9 fuel hose is not up to the job. Although its supposed to be suitable for fuel with a small percentage of ethanol it would appear in practice it doesn't work. I bought a few meters of biofuel hose from http://hoseworld.com/acatalog/Biofuel-Hose.html"...

Found an oil leak on my completely brand new 1600 engine

It's still a very minimal leak, like old_Neil said above.. Stick some sealant over it for noe if there's no time to get the engine builder or supplier to sort it out. My gearbox leaks more oil than that and there's no pressure in that.. Sent from my C55 using Tapatalk

    Which Carb Linkage?

Unlikely. But the ones listed for dells will fit. http://www.dellorto.co.uk/shop/vw-carburettor-kits-parts/vw-aircooled-manifolds-linkages-parts/vw-linkage-kits/type-1-idfdrla-bell-crank-linkage-kit-csp/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; As mentioned on the previous post, have a...

    Insurance Providers

I noticed the same thing in my policy with AFlux last year... I wonder if they are worried about these buses setting on fire as much as we are! Sent from my C55 using Tapatalk

Are the VeWib rear engine lid seals about the best ?

Same here with the splitting problem, mine has split around the bottom corners too. This one is a replacement for one that did the same within about 8 months. Sent from my C55 using Tapatalk

    Rear hubs getting hot......

Doubt its anything to do with the hub nut torque. Most peoples are probably overtightened for exactly the same reason you have said. I think mine are closer to 400ft/lb with no issue. Sent from my C55 using Tapatalk

    Which Carb Linkage?

I've got a CSP bellcrank fitted to my 34 ICTs.. Its a brilliant piece of kit, I think some places don't recommend them because if not set with a little bit of slack in the accelerator cable expansion of the engine would cause the carbs to be opened slightly on idle once the engine is warm.
