Hi all,

So after stripping the engine bay I find the cable from the battery to solenoid is damaged where it has been rubbing in one of the clips to body. It appears to be a black cable - which I thought is odd considering it is live.

Is it 25mm2 and should it be black or red - or am I just being picky?
Also - any suggestions on best suppliers?

Cheers,
Dave

2.5mm^2 I presume you mean? Sounds about right.
Black is live when ignition is on for these buses and other air cooled VW's. Red is for permanently live as far as I'm aware.

Not that it matters in all honesty, but sticking with the same colours may help you trace faults or the next owner follow the loom..

Dave, I think you are referring to the main battery positive cable to the M8 stud terminal of the starter motor? The minimum is 25mm2 and most (nearly all?) are covered with black insulation, although red is more appropriate. If you have a non-stock higher powered starter you may need to use 35mm2 cable. Vehicle Wiring Products are one of a number of suppliers.

Thanks all.

Peter - that's the one. I was thinking red, but actually having checked the wiring diagram now it shows black so rlepecha makes a fair point. I'm sure I'll remember, and if i ever did pass on it would make sense. Thanks for the help. I'm buying one of VWP now. Funny how the price of cables on the scene seems to be 3 times that on universal sites!
