    Tailpipe fell off!

I'm in the Lake District this weekend, (currently raining - shock), on the m6 on the way up I heard a strange noise, got off and it seems as though my tailpipe had come loose from the body of the exhaust and sheared (is it welded?) from the supporting bracket. I have a stock 1600 tp and a stock...

Door card holes don't match up!

Hi all, I've removed my doorcards to fit the plastic membrane, admittedly I fitted them and didn't know about the plastic a few years ago. I now have to get the door cards back on and the holes in the ply don't match to the holes in the door. Last time I put them on to my shame I glued them...

    Westfalia Sink Cover/Table

Ours was missing - I replaced it with a chopping board of a similar size, that's pretty much what it is anyway, couple of hinges from a diy store, not original but works a treat! We did have the support but I'm sure you could find something to work - £100 is a ridiculous price

    tunnel prices

Out of interest, what do you guys say a VW is? I guess officially it's campervan but when you see some of the behemoths it doesn't seem quite fair!!

Off Topic: Where to buy 5ft Fluorescent Tube Lighting?

I got some recently from screwfix, twin tube 58W but then I replaced the bulbs with LED tubes from Newey & Eyre. 26W tubes I think, looks great in the garage, nice cool white light. You have to bypass the original ballast to fit LED tubes but it's simple enough, with hindsight it may have been...

    Subaru powered early bays... GO!

I must admit I'm tempted by this, however I'd like to know if it makes the engine quieter at high speed, always thought I'd need to pair it with (somehow!) a 5 speed box or a freeway flyer type box (£££££), which makes an expensive project even more so, sorry to hijack!!

    Trickle charging

Hi, I've finally got my bus back home now my garage is finished, I'm looking for a trickle charger for the battery but I also have a 110ah leisure battery wired in with a split load charging setup. Will the trickle charger safely charge both? Was just worried about the difference in the...

    Condensation on Carb...

Yep, I remember having this prob on my beetle - it's called carb icing, you've got it spot on, the manifold should heat the carb but it gets blocked with carbon over the years, someone said caustic soda can clear it but never tried - nasty stuff that. Best bet is new manifold I guess!! Matt

    Ignition issues!?

Hi, The last few times I go to start my bus, I turn the key, the oil and gen lights come on, the just a 'click ' not a repetitive one like it's trying to start, just a single. I take the key out, give it another couple of go's and eventually fired up as normal. I've had a look at the starter...

    Baby Car Seat

Hi, Apologies to revive an old thread but guess it saves me starting a new one!! Did you ever fit the isofix rail? I'd be really interested in some pics and I'm right in saying it doesn't affect the r n r bed pulling out?? Thanks Matt

Is a third quarter light unusual?

I've got a 1970 SA westy, mine also had the third quarter light, I changed it for a solid piece of glass as I didn't trust the rubber seals, plus if it leaked it'd be too late before you knew about it! Congrats on owning a SA bus though, we're rare beasts!!

Popping noise - leaky manifold gasket?

Thanks all, got a lot, tools and plenty of releasing fluid!! Going to have a crack tomorrow, do I need to take the rear bumper, valence and tinware off I'm guessing? Or is it just an awkward reach around? Thanks, Matt

Popping noise - leaky manifold gasket?

D'oh, I really don't post up here much!! Could someone move to tech please? Thanks for the reply

Popping noise - leaky manifold gasket?

Hi all, Long time lurker here... I've noticed the last few trips I have a popping noise coming from my engine, particularly when I release the throttle. I've narrowed it down to LHS of the engine, down by the heat exchanger I think. I've attached some photos, the first two are of the LHS and...

    Modern radio in original hole??

Thanks for all the replies, I'm unsure what to do if I'm honest, I do like the retrosounds but they're not cheap! I do use the glovebox for pretty much everything so can't really sacrifice that. May look at making some kind of under tray to mount under the dash. Like I said I appreciate all the...

    Modern radio in original hole??

Hi all, I've got a 1970 westy, with a period radio in the original aperture, just wondered if anyone knows of any modern radios that will fit in the same hole or are they all too big?? I'm fed up of driving along twiddling my knobs ( ) trying to get a decent radio signal!! Cheers, Matt
