I am looking for the centre pieces that bolt to a bug tunnel (not the inertia reels). They were used in many other vehicles at the time - BMW, Alfa and the whole VW stable. These had no 'male' section on the belt, the belt just fed under a clip mounted on the tunnel.

Looking for the chrome front door opening latch with integral locking lever - latch, surround (both chrome) and plastic insert.

Change the ring and pinion to 4.57 and be done with it, unless you have very tall tyres (around 25 inches should be fine with this). You could also drop the 4th to .77 with the R&P swap.

A friend of mine here has a gross hydrogen generator on his bug. He says he has to use petrol to cool the motor as the hydrogen , with higher calorific value, burns hotter. He has a 24v generator and claims 96/mpg (US gal). I hope to get this on our shop dyno soon to check it out. The downside...

Short runs or too heavy a weight oil, like 20/50, will do it. You need to get the motor to proper operating temperature to vaporise the moisture and the air-cleaner should take care of the rest.

The steel shift plate goes on the bare floor, tabs up and the ski jump tab to the right. The shiny aluminium plate goes on top of that, and the shifter base bolts over them. Shifter base has the pin to the right. If that doesn't work for you let me know and I will send pics.

Another problem with the serpentine system is that , unlike the VW set-up, it doesn't allow the belt to slip, and if you turn your RPM up too much even a welded fan won't stop it imploding - really messy! The best pulleys have 2 locating tabs as well as a flat on the outer half locating hole...

VW specify GL4, however GL5 is a newer blend that was not available at the time. Straight GL5 is not good for brass synchros which is why they reworked it to GL5 - MT1 which will work. I prefer the GL4 and add Molyslip to make it last.
