    Wheel refurb.

Cheers both. I have heard of the wheels coming loose. I think it was a thread on here a few years ago. As I’ve said on another thread I’ve had the van 27 years and really this is the first time since I put it together all those years ago I’ve done anything big. Body work needs a bit of work...

    Winter work thread

I’m looking at the north coast 500 next year so I’m going to: drop the engine and change the oil cooler and fit my tinwear properly. Ive got the van booked in for a blister on the drivers door and a rusty wheel arch. I’m going to fit my new madmatz front cab mats and kick panels Renew my...

So as I said I would report back so 5 wheels done. They look good to me. A bit of dust on them but I’m happy. I noticed the wheel at the bottom. Which is going to be my spare has a different centre hole and is stamped VW. Is this an original? So what size tyres will these take? I am totally...

    Wheel refurb.

I’ve been trying to get my steel wheels recurred. Either local companies only do alloys or the ones that would have done the wheels are out of business. Decided to have a go. So, I’ve gone from A to B and ended up with a clean steel wheel with rust. My question how to treat rust before...

Is it time for a new project?

Only you will know that but it can be done on slow time. I’ve just emailed the local college to try and get on a welding course. Same as you. I stripped and built my bus up 10 odd years ago now but I paid to get the welding done first. If I have to do it all again, which I am sure I will at...

    Camping meals/food.

I boil the kettle and eggs in the van. If we have electric hook up I use a toaster and the genius invention the air fryer. Apart from that all cooking is done outside. As to beverages. Krombacher or red wine. Red wine means less liquid and less loo visits.

    Bend EMPI gear shifter

How to bend an EMPI shifter. I know people will say buy a Gene berg or other make but I can’t afford that at the moment so stuck with the EMPI which to be fair has worked well. However it touches the handbrake handle. This has been picked up on MOT because to get it into first you need to let...

Got all my work done just need to get the steering wheel back on and secured. However the thread on the steering column is not looking good. Plus I reckon the thread on the nut may be damaged as well. Questions Should I cut off the top mm of thread? If I don’t cut the thread and buy a new...
