    1600 Single Port Engine

Looks like I may have priced this too high. Open to offers!

    1600 Single Port Engine

1600 Single Port 'C' code engine on universal AS41 case for sale. This was running in my van until last Saturday. Always ran well, but sounded a bit clackety, especially on startup (sounded like valve train noise or top end wear), and has a bit of end float, so could probably do with a...

Wanted: Deluxe rear quarterlight, and deluxe seals

Great stuff! Let me know. Cheers

    Fitting deluxe waistline trim

All sounds like a good idea, until a few years down the line when the van needs to be re-sprayed, or you need to remove a section of trim to deal with a localised rust issue. I guess you'd have to destroy the trim to remove it?

Wanted: Deluxe rear quarterlight, and deluxe seals

As per title. I'm after an offside opening rear quarterlight (driver's side on RHD), with a chrome rim to replace one of mine that has a snapped lower pivot pin. Not too concerned about the condition of the seal, as I have one of those, but it's essential that the pivot pin is intact, and that...

    VoWo Spares Day

I was there at 10.30am. £14 entry was taking the mickey for 1 open barn that was half full of swapmeeters, plus a trade hall that was half full of traders. Yes - I managed to pick up some cheap tinware for an engine project (though the head tin turned out to be for a 1200, not a 13/15/1600...

[For Sale] Accelerator Linkage Kit RHD '67-72

Very tempting. Does this require welding to fit?

For Sale: Lowered front beam, leaves, and KYB shocks

I do indeed, and I can take them to the Slough Swapmeet (Bracknell) on Sunday if you'd like me to?

    Surrey Aircooled

Given that the Marquis of Granby is walking distance from where I live, I really ought to make an appearance. Was planning on popping down last night, before I realised that it wasn't actually the first Wednesday of the month.....

    Oil pressure / light issue

As per the other thread on the issue, this all has to do with the fact that the oil cooler does not see any flow at high pressure. If you increase the thickness of the oil, you increase the pressure, it bypasses the oil cooler, and therefore doesn't get cooled effectively. VW never recommended...

    Oil pressure / light issue

Whilst not ideal, this is normal for an engine that is not in its first flush of youth, after a long highway run. VW themselves recognised this - see extract from user manual (bottom right) Any straight 30 grade oil, or 15w40 multigrade is fine for your engine. Avoid the use of 20w50, as...

    Oil temperatures

It's not quite that simple. The response to oil pressure is not linear. It opens at a much higher pressure than it closes at. It's all very clever! Have a good read of the thread I posted a link to.

    Oil temperatures

According to VW, temperatures up to 120 degrees are acceptable on a highway run.... It may seem counter intuitive, but your engine will run cooler with a 30 weight oil than a 50 weight oil. This is because the oil cooling system works on a pressure basis, rather than temperature, and is...

For Sale: Lowered front beam, leaves, and KYB shocks

I've just put my van back up to stock height (as I'm a bit of an old git like that), and so I've got my old lowered front beam up for sale. It's from a 1969 model year, so has the early bolt pattern. It's South African and rot free, with the top tube cut and turned to give approx 3" drop...

    Wanted: Front door lock mechanisms

After taking my front door lock mechanism apart, as it won't unlock from the outside, I've realised that it's not just the little spring at the bottom that's broken, but the top one too. I'm therefore after a replacement (1969-73 version) It's the RHS one I'm especially after, but given the LHS...

Beetle exhaust on a 1600 early bay westy

They fit without a problem, and you'll probably get away with it, but there's a good reason why busses were fitted with a side exit exhaust. The area to the rear of a bus is a very low pressure area when you're driving along, and if your exhaust exits there, there's a possibility that if your...
