    Camping heat, gas or diesel????

I changed from a Propex to a Lavaner Pro 2kW Chinese heater. The propex worked well but the cost of LPG was extravagant. Wasn't to keen on the freeze and burn operation of the heater either. Can now just set the Diesel heater on a constant low output to keep an even temperature. The other bonus...

Belly Pans - Are They Necessary?

Only the side pans where welded, the central pan was removable for access as the auxiliary heater could be mounted there.

Belly Pans - Are They Necessary?

Belly pans were always fitted to vans with a hole in the roof and to twin sliders.

Parts Wanted H4 headlights and brighter bulbs for rear lights 1971 DC?

Replacement halogen headlamp bulbs are effective but only if the reflectors are not tarnished. Rear lamps, again with the reflectors. Also consider fitting relays at the rear so the voltage drop from the power going all the way from the back to the front and back again.

    Battery recommendation?

No, the 72Ah rating just means you can leave your lights on longer without flattening the battery than a smaller 45Ah one. The 670A CCA (cold cranking amps) is just how many amps you can safely draw out of the battery for a short period starting the engine, without damaging the battery.

    Battery recommendation?

Don't worry about the cranking amps, 077 has more than enough for a stock engine. The compressions are so low compared to a modern engine, the starter draws less than 100A.

    Battery recommendation?

Varta, Bosch (made by Varta) Banner, Exide, Yuasa = (Halfords own brand) are top line batteries. Early bays had the + terminal on the left, 077 battery is the original 45Ah. Batteries are still available in that style, Fiats and Renaults had them that way, but are more expensive than the...

    Starter Issue?

You have a replacement geared starter. The wire with the push on terminal comes from ignition switch. The large black from the battery and red from the alternator/dynamo regulator. Where is the buzzing coming from? If from the dash area, more likely a low voltage problem.

    Gearbox / Clutch parts?

Clutches with the three fingers were preloaded so as not to distort when bolting to the flywheel. The clips fitted under the fingers and held the preload until it was bolted to the flywheel, and should have been removed after fitting.

    Drum Brake skimming

Yeah it is getting harder to find the small engineers. Baldyne engineering, Locksbottom might do them, they do engine and general machining. Only have the ligthest touch taken off or you start to run into having oversize linings.

    Lighting Switch

Just use a bridge wire between 30 and X. Ignition switched headlamps were only fitted post 1971.

    Late starter in early Bay

Long shaft starters were introduced with the new 091 gearboxes in 1976 model year. Easy to tell which box you have 091 have the reverse light switch on the left of the gearbox, earlier 002 boxes it was at the end of the gearbox.

    What's going on here?

It might be a converted type 3 engine, the engine number would be on the top of the crankcase between the distributor and the oil filler tower.

    No indicators

If the fuel gauge is not working as well, check fuse 9 make sure it has 12v both sides of it, otherwise it could be faulty hazard warning switch try slowly pulling the switch out with the indicators on to see if they come on.
