They are where the brake pipe goes through a hole where it isn't a flexi to hard pipe connection. One I can think of off the top of my head is where the rear copper lines thread through the hub assembly - the bung just stops it from rubbing metal on metal where there isn't a connection that'll take a C clip. The C clip will locate on a welded 'prong' as can be seen in your picture and there is a groove on the brake pipe that this locates into. Absolutely ***** description there I'm sure!
