I'm after a compressor for the garage. What size do most people have?
Its mainly going to be used for Air tools (impact guns, ratchets, sander, possibly touch ups?) Have been looking at various compressors on the net (mainly on Ebay) and the price varies a hell of a lot. Most DIY compressors seem to be around 20 - 30 litre tanks with a 1.5 HP engine. Is this powerful enough for what i intend to use it for?

have look at this page , it will help you sort out the type of compressor/ tools & air flow needed to use them (page is for onfo only , have had no dealings with company)

Just to confirm the point Harlequin made, rather than air tank size you should look at their cfm rating which is the air they can deliver off the pump, from memory a lot of air power tools need at least 8 or 9 cfm whereas a spray gun only need about 5 (again from memory)

if your doing touchups you would be better with an oil free compressor, i have a small oil 7cfm 50L tank one which runs all the air tools no problem, and a larger 200L oil free for paint.

Aldi had a great little compressor a while back for £60.

Went to buy the Aldi 1 on the day it came out, i got there about 2 hours after the shop had opened and they had already sold out, i enquired about getting 1 put on hold if they had any more in and was told i would be 10th on the list!

I too have the Aldi compressor, absolute pants if your going to use air tools as thiers not enougth go in it but it Re sprayed my bus with a low pressure spray gun a year ago and its still going strong, and im qualified as a sprayer( well, 18 years ago anyway  ).

Anyone ever used these

Not bad for that money...may struggle if using a sander or polisher for a length of time
if used for spraying you may want to include an in-line moisture trap(about £10-15 from machine mart)

Im looking for something that i can run most air tools off and also do touch ups / primer.
My mate, whos going to spray the bay, has got an industrial compressor in the garage at his house so i just want something that i can use for the intial prep, dont want to have the van sat in his garage longer than needed.

you could buy a 100 ltr tank, but i found it was running all the time, so had to sell that[waste of money] and went for a 200 ltr tank 14 cfm, it runs all the tools but depends on your budget.hope that helps
