Hi, can anyone help please. I have a 68 earlybay with an original Bosch condenser part number 1237330220, i looked on ebay to purchase one and found a bosch one. when it arrived, in a bosch box i noticed there were no bosch name on like the original. When i came to fit it the round plastic part that pushes into the side of the distributor appeared smaller? also the cable is slightly shorter so the condenser will not fit.
I then went to gsf and purchased the a buru one, this is identical to the bosch one i received?
So, can anyone recommend the correct condenser please? the green wire must be long enough to go round the distributor to screw on the condenser. Many thanks...Nick

Don't suppose you could upload some photos to explain what you mean? Not bought a condenser for a while but never heard of the issue your having.

I recently bought a condensor from GSF and they pointed out that were different lengths of wire from condenser. The one they supplied me with the cable was 22 inch long and fits into distributor perfectly. Part no 923VG0030. Go back to GSF and get it changed for correct one.

Hi Nick,
The basic problem is that a condenser is almost a museum piece! All manufacturers would rather not be bothered with them as volumes are shrinking rapidly. What the market forces are doing is combining various part numbers under one number by making the cable a bit longer perhaps, or changing the grommet size slightly maybe or the connector and hope no one is worried too much. So I doubt it is GSF's problem they are just selling, most probably the only part they can get hold of. Beru are the original suppliers to Bosch.
If you care to quote your distributor number I can tell you what the original Bosch or VW part number was or is?

Peter, the condenser that I bought from GSF was a genuine Beru condenser. If you have a look on their Veewee website you will see various different condensers for different years. I wanted one with a long lead as I have mounted my coil on N/S inner wing on my KG.

Hi Peter, i'll try and locate the number on the distributor. The condenser i removed was an original part.
The issue is that the smaller of the two wires will not reach round to the hole in the side of the distributor, not only this but the plastic round part that pushes in is not snug, it falls out.
The original Bosch one that i removed fits perfectly, correct wire length and the plastic part that pushes in fits exactly, this is the part that has the male spade connector that is angled upwards.
Its a nightmare, Just Kampers sent me one but the spade connector was not angled.
Just wondering if Lucas, Denso, Unipart do one that actually fits.

Sorry but I'm having issues uploading pics

Hello all, I'm now wondering if someone has previously fitted the wrong condenser? My Distributor is:
vw 211 905 205Q
Bosch 0231 173 001
JFUDR-4

Does anyone know what condenser it should be along with points, rotor arm etc etc, plus timing details.

Again, thank you everyone.

Here a site you can check your distributor
http://www.oldvolkshome.com/ignition.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Also type the Bosch number into Google and there is another ref site there
It seems that distributor is from a 71 1600cc type 2.
I notice that yours is an earlier model but don't think it will make much difference.

Thank you.
My pulley has three notches for the timing, any idea which one it is for this distributor please.

Thank you everyone! :?
