My bay has had two/possibly three holes drilled in the bracket that supports the steering column and above the ignition switch, anybody know why this might have been done? Also I can't find an engine number, not one by the timing pulley which I thought was the place for it, any ideas?
Adrian.

I think that is how some people remove the ignition from the housing. As far as the engine number, I thought it was under the generator/alternator stand. ??

a few years ago I bought a brand new 'mexico' engine which had and still has no engine no. so maybe its one of those, or been rebuilt using a brand new case ?

Thanks to you both, it has had a new ignition switch. There is no number in that position, also the edges of the nuts and bolts all look very sharp, so I think the new engine thoughts could be right, it definitely has a fairly new mechanical 'Mexico' fuel pump. Have got the address of the last owners in California so will wright to them and see if they can shed light on it.
