Off down Devon last week in July for 10 nights, going to a place i went as a kid in a caravan pulled by a VW Type 3 Fastback called River Dart Country Park.
What i remember it was all action zipwires assault course lakes and the rest, not cheap by any means but with two young lads with lots of energy thought i'd give it ago as a main basecamp.

We're looking to go to North Devon after having been to Cornwall for the last few years.

Looking at the map it looks like there are only 2 (huge) beaches there, we're used to the hundreds of beaches in Cornwall, so if you don't like
one - you can move along a few miles...

Is everything being focused on Woolacombe/Illfracombe a problem regarding parking and "everything" being over busy - or is the place big enough for all. We've go two young lads so queueing everywhere is not good and we're going mid Aug. so resigned to seeing the place at its busiest!

Reading the postings it seems Lobb Fields is a good campsite - are there any other recommendations - we don't want swimming pools, crazy golf etc - all we need is bogs, showers and quiet...

Could we be disappointed with N. Devon after being used to Cornwall...?
(It does seem quite a bit more expensive...!)

Thanks in advance for any comments

N Devons a fantastic area it's a bit more than two Beaches as the map only suggests Croyde Bay, Saunton sands,Woolacombe, we often go to Lee Beach in between Ilfracombe & Woolacombe which is great when the tides out for the Dog's & the little uns, the best thing about the area is Exmoore. There's plenty here to discover & Lobb Field is a pretty good base to do it from.

Hi,

^^^^ WHS, I love North Devon - I live there! There is a lot to explore, and there are quite a few beaches, Saunton Sands is a massive long beach, and the coast road from Braunton to Croyde has a awesome view of Saunton, and is a panarama view all road. Exmoor is great, you have Westwood Ho!, and little beaches and coves heading around. Blue Anchor near Minehead, not strictly Devon, but Somerset.

Instow beach is nice, just moved from Instow to Barnstaple a few months back, nice little dunes for the kids, the ice cream man from Appledore across the water is normallt on the front, and they do a lovely devon ice cream with clotted cream on top! Lush! Big dunes at Braunton Burrows (also dune complex between westwood ho!) Braunton Burrows are more or less opposite Lobb Fields too, and they are part of the special interest area of North Devon's AONB. Great for dogs, and for skimboarding down the large dunes ;) The Burrows is IIRC the largest dune complex in the UK

Cheers!

Alistair
