Hi Aaron,
Had a look at this guys ad, as we are currently stuck on the door card dilema :? (After respray and interior refit.)

We have a whole set of original door cards (except rear hatch) that we want to replace with copies of originals. Am I right in thinking the VW Heritage TMI ones don't have the embossing on ? their ad is not crystal on that.

Do you reckon this guy would be interesyed in making a whole set? Our sliding door card backing is broken but vinyl is ok and the cab doors have speaker wholes cut by previous owner, but other than that they are good.

If I contacted this guy re making covers this raises the question: "are the new hardboard cards that you can buy from various places a good fit?" Has anyone bought any that they can recommend, or not recommend as the case may be :?:

Don't want to spend the money if they are going to look poo :(

I cant see why not he was more than eager to get his hands on a set of earlies....

I believe his main work is mod trailer covers etc....

so recon hes branching out and opening his audience....

They look quite good - hand finished as well, seems to be keen on quality! I'd be inclinded to make my own hard board backs though. If you do, don't get any thicker than 3mm - it's just to thick.

Hi all, it's me that's doing the cards. I'll give a brief history so you know who / what you're dealing with.
We make / repair specialist covers, one off's, for anything from narrow boats, traction engines, showmens equipment (fairground) to aircraft. Over the years we have made many door / trim cards for classics and have the facilities to make the neccessary tooling in house, to our standard. We were asked a few weeks ago to make a set for a late T2 hence having the ones in the ebay ad, seemed a logical move to advertise them for other customers.
As stated in this thread, we are after a set of early ones as patterns so if anyone can spare a set for a few weeks (we have to fit making the tooling around work) we can do a deal.
Thanks for all the interest, it's nice to meet some genuine folk.
Rod.
PS, I have had bays myself in the past but it's been quite a while ago, may be looking for a T3 to convert shortly just for the odd weekend away.

you'll be getting a T2 again!!!

Hi, thanks for the welcome. As for the T2, seriously considered it already but don't really want the required work nowadays :D

To be honest, I went back to Land Rovers but at 55 I find them a little uncomfortable now, after a couple of hours (if I'm lucky) they make my knees ache.
I'll probably end up selling the 110 and getting a T3 (air cooled yes / no ?). I fancy building a camper from scratch as I do a little woodwork as a hobby and the upholstery shouldn't be any problem.

Rod.

Hi Rod,

Glad to see you are on early bay, was going to ask Araon how to contact you  As I mentioned earlier in thread I have a whole set, (not currently in the van) except rear hatch, which I don't think they made org. not sure? They were covered in fabric when we bought the van, which I stripped off. I was very excited to see we had vinyl cards as I'd rather keep the originals, but someone had tried to paint them for some reason?! and I couldn't get it all off. They also have a black kick strip along the bottom of the rear cards, (all except cab ones.) And the cab cards have had speaker wholes cut in them but other than that they are good. :) However after respray they don't quite look right, so looking to replace with 'classic car look' new ones.

Cards I have;
Cab doors
Behind rear seats (walk through)
Sliding door (backing damaged but vinyl good)
Opp sliding door
Rear wheel arches

Anyway, I would be happy to chat further with you, maybe we can work out something that will help us both out :D

Where abouts are you based :?: and you said 'spare for a few weeks' does this mean you would return orginals :?: As I'd need to make new backs from them if I can't buy any good ones off the shelf. ( re poo comment being about hardboard cards that don't fit, not your covers that look very good :p )

Last question : can you get the original VW vinyls :?: our cards are 'off white' and I'd like new ones to be the same 8)

pm me if you want to chat further. Look foward to hearing from you

Keep us informed Rodp, I was going to do my own but gonna hold fire and see what these turn out like....

do you produce two tone?

Hi Araon, we can produce two tone but to be honest we specialise in forgerys :)
There's just something about making exact replica's that gives you a buzz.
Having said that, yes we will produce two tone as we do need to make a living after all.
Rod
