Helloes, I have a US 70 bus.

I had the front panel replaced and now am getting towards the end of the resto.

I plugged all wires that I saw in the engine bay into the respective sockets (enigne still on workbench) and taped off the remaiing for running the motor. Then I attached a battery, not new but still enough juice to power lights and brights.

So the running lights and high beams work front and back.

Still need to attach the new brake wire to the front where?

The hazards work, but when trying the indicators they don't light up.
I've disconnected the yellow wire from the middle to stop the brakes to use the indicators.
Have I done something wrong here?

Still trying to figure out how to convert my US rear lights to a european cluster...

wiper motor doesn't make a sound nor motion.

Horn doesn't work. I used the battery direct to see if I can get anything, but no.
Took it apart and looks very clean for 44yrs, how do I check or fix?

Help on any of these issues would be greatly appreciated as I'm pretty clueless to electrics.

Cheers.

Andy

There is a how to guide on what you need to do to convert the lights over. I will see if I can find it. Some people use the reversing lights as indicators but I moved mine into the rear lights.

if it makes you feel any better I am having a mare with my electrics...

Hi J

Yes I have read camper and bus explanation but I'm not sure where to attach splice in the new wire I ran front to back for the brakes.

Thanks though!

Andy

Hey Dale,

Do I now connect the new wire I pulled through the bus to the yellow where it used to connect to the hazard switch?

Have I also disabled the indicators by pulling off the yellow wire?

Cheers

Andy

Sound like the hazard switch might be wired wrong if indicator have stopped working. The brake light wire should come off connector numbered 54 on switch. You need to crawl under the bus and run the cable in and connect to this once the lights are wired up. http://www.speedyjim.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is very helpful for wiring diagrams.

Hey Kaboose,

Thanks for your reply.

Everything worked fine, but I have taken off the yellow wire from the middle (54) and taped this up.

Now do I connect my newly run wire (from back to front) to the terminal 54 on the hazard switch?
Will this now be my brakes?

Pardon my ignorance, I just can't seem to get my head round this...

Cheers.

Andy

No, connect it to the yellow wire, nothing should be on 54 now. You need the wire because US spec buses use the brake lights for indicators. What are you doing about indicators? I used the reversing lights on mine and changed to bulbs to orange ones.

Hi Kaboose,

Thank you for the pointer for the brake light wire to yellow wire.

I've got Euro spec housing with separate indicator bulb in housing.

The indicator bulbs light up on emergency flashers but not on indicator switch on the steering column.

Do horns go bad? I opened mine as it wouldn't work even when taken off the bus and using a battery with jumper leads to power the connectors directly.
Does anybody have a spare horn that works?

Wiper motor doesn't work doesn't even make a sound or slight movement. Where do I start on this?

Thank you for your continued help.

Andy

What I did with my bus was to start at fuse box and trace all wire from there, you will need a wiring diagram for your buses year. Wiring a pretty simple once you get your head around it. People have a go at trying to fix problems and start swapping all the connector around on the switches and fuse box and get in a right mess, starting from scratch and tracing the wires is the best way in my opinion plus you learn all about the wiring as you go.
