Just fitted a new windscreen and seal on the bay, but we didn't have time to fit the deluxe trim. Is there a secret or knack to fitting it or is it just a case of keep swearing at it until it looks okay?

There is a special tool you can buy for the job but I just used a blunt screw driver and half a bottle of fairy liquid.

Did the job but next time I would defo buy the tool. Heritage and C&C do em I think.

Cheers Wibbler.

That's a lot of money for the tool though so I'll stick to fairy liquid and swearing, unless anyone has one they could lend me?

Sorry fellas, forgot to mention if you use washing liquid to water it down and then wash it off
I guess a bit of KY wouldnt hurt :D

Does this work for rear and side windows as well :?:

as far as i know yes, its the way i was show by an old vw dealership fitter/ bodyman that worked in germany in the late sixties and seventies.
i still do it the same now as have found trying to put the trim in after can be done but either buggers the trim and you do not get a nice finish or u rip the rubber.Due to the pressure of the glass and the body, as the trim strip is actually a locking strip too. one trick he did teach me was to warm the trim ( if your using the plastic) in a bucket of really hot tap water then it shapes to the curves a treat.

^^^^great advise 8)

I always heat up everything in water before i put it on and use silicone spray for lubricant, i find that vasaline works okay but tends to get everywhere and is a pain to clean off

i use 'son of a gun' for fitting windows which also helps to keep the rubber supple and water resistant
