Hi All,

I foolishly took my gear stick out (all part of the newbie experience I guess!) and now can't get it back. I've tried laying underneath the bus whilst trying to direct someone to move the ball of the gearstick in to the socket but the small spring ball at the back seems to stop it fitting in to the socket. Has anybody got any easy methods of getting the gear stick back in it's rightful place?

Just to confirm the plate underneath the gear stick has the longer raised part on the RHS.

Any help greatly appreciated!!!

Just line up the ball with the socket press down, and do up the two fixing bolts.

can be a bit tricky .... stick with it!

.. and don't forget to stick it in second gear before aligning the plate to make sure you can get all gears!

I know this trouble well! What some people don't realise is that some gear sticks have fixed pins at the bottom of them but some, like yours have spring loaded pins. The best thing to do is rotate the bottom plate anticlockwise at far as you can. This will create a gap in the bottom left hand side so that you can just see the gear rod. Now line up the gear stick pin with the slot in the gear rod and press down. This is the hard bit as you are now pressing against the big spring, but keep with it! Now, the pin shoul be in the gear rod slot, but the spring loaded back of the pin will be overhanging the back of the gear rod. Whilst still pressing down get a long screwdriver down the gap I told you to create earlier. With the screwdriver, push the pin inwards so it now all sits in the gear rod. Whilst still pressing down, rotate the bottom plate into position so the holes line up and stick the bolts in. Don't fully tighten them, as you meet to push the bottom plate as far over to the left ad possible, then tighten it up.

That's it!

Good luck

Steve

Thanks guys!

Well finally got it back in. So far all gears selectable except first so will give the plate a play with and hopefully we'll be there!

Thanks again,

Matt

What I do is to place the sprung loaded pin (mushroom end) on the socket (the gear lever at an angle 2nd or 4th gear position), and then push the gear lever down, it's a bit fiddly at first but you get used to it, as in my case the gear lever manages to keep popping out and swing's round.
