ok

seeing as i have to replace my front panel i was wondering what peoples views on the front grill are, as i see a few vans with and without and can determine which way to go, i mean the grill is great in summer but does look cool without it

help me :)

grill!

hth

PS don't listen to what easy says, when he says it

NO GRILL can look cool - but it depends on the overall context of the bus (as per Easy's ;) )

But it's GRILL for me :)

Grill all the way. The lights and badge look misplaced and out of proportion without it imho.

Most of the ones I've seen with grills have been done badly, water has got in, popped out the filler and its started to rot out the front panel.

Definitely grill.

i like the original look i think you can go to far smoothing things and such its a classic vw not a Corsa!

that said its all personal taste look at good examples of both looks i know Easy has a really nice van thats smoothed and there are loads of cool original vans to look at to.

Oi ya monkeys!!!

Old predictable easy they call me

No grill! No Grill!

Lookls much better IMO 8) cleaner lines dooods.

Sparkywig, someone has done a sketchy job on removing that grill  just fillered over by the looks  you need to cut an exact plate the size of the grill hole and then weld in all the way round and not tack. Tacked ones crack the paint after a few months where as mine has been done for a good few years now and is perf 8) If you do it right then you will just need a very thin skim of filler and wont cause you any probs 8)

and in case you missed it..................

No Grill!

grille , its like shaving your eyebrows off

my 2 pence: defo a grill if your fitting a badge and no grill if your not.

thems the rules!

Keep the grill and then bang a big spare wheel on the front as well...and don't even think about lowering. The closer your van is to the type of vehicle regularly polished by an old man in a wooly hat and then used for family holidays in 1972 the cooler it will eventually prove to be.

I was hoping that this thread was going to be about cookers !! HAHA !!
I was rather hoping to champion having a Grill in your 2 burner cooker, as its much much easier to do yer toast in the morning !!!

oops.

Well as for the Grill or not question.
I would say

Grille

Think about it................would a splitty be a splitty if the "V" was removed. The grill is part of the look for me (ie grill no indicators) If your going to fill it/weld it you might as well get a later bay and ruin that instead.
Its everyone to there own, but if i was going to take away an early bays identity and customize it i would condider buying a late bay instead. (thats just my opinion)

fair point, but if you remove a splitty V then it is mainly a different model, i.e closer to an earlybay. Where as if you remove the grill on a bay, its still a bay. Does that mean if you take a tyre off the front and mount it somewhere else that it wasnt fitted to, have you ruined it? No is the answer, its just a different version of a classic shape. :D (My own opinion of course  )

Does my van look less of an earlybay because of the grill being removed?
