Are modern car headlight relays 5 pin?
Im currently on my 3rd VW relay for the bay (£15 each time) due to the windscreen leaking and filling the relays full of water. The neighbour knocked on the door and said i'd left the lights on (again) the relay was shorting and flattening the battery. Anyway i've wired up some flying leads and have moved the relay out from under the fuse box until i can change the windscreen seal (was hoping to do this at the same time as re-spray but might need to do earlier) anyway this got me thinking, if a modern relay is 5 pin then i could re-wire to suit the newer relay and just get a batch load from the scrappy instead of paying £15 each time for a VW one until i can sort the leak

Unfortunately all modern VW ceased using that relay somewhere in the 70's and went to using direct switching on the column. However, something like this relay would do the same job at a somewhat lower price.

That type of make and break relay wont acctually work as you need the latching relay to make the circuit due to the way the coloum switch works on a bay. believe me i have tried it. Ask Nelly.
