Hello, I know nobody is going to know this, but how many Early Bays do you think are running in the UK

Now there's a good question .. I think the number seems to be rising rapidly in the UK at the moment as there seems to be lots coming in from the States (its always amazing how many earlies there are for sale in the US on TheSamba ...)

anyone want to guess based on a 'survival rate' ? Given that they made about 1.2million earlies world-wide (over the 5 model years...), say if just 10% have survived, that still leaves 120,000 !!

they really dont seem to like bays in the states, the beetle is king followed by splits, KGs and T3s, bays are at the bottom which is good for us as they are a little cheaper!

Wow 120,000 world wide is still alot, i mean i know i have 1 and i have seen a few other around....hahaha. Im gonna email the dvla and lie to them abit and see if i can find out :D

WATCH THIS SPACE!

I guess because theyve got so many over there ! The bay years were probably the best years for VW exporting to the States ...

Just sent the DVLA an email

"Hello, this is abit of an odd question but i am doing a project at school about the longevity of new and old cars, namely VW beetles and campers new and old, to see if new cars or old cars are greener depending on how long they last. Would you have information on VW Transporters (campers) still registered in the UK made from 1968 - 1973.

Thank you very much for your help.

Kind Regards
Paul"

Im sure they will ignore me, but if Jeremy Clarkson can do it!

yep - reckon there must be about 100 LHD left for every RHD !

but to be honest LHD doesnt bother me, me and the missus both have LHD beetles and they are not a problem, except when trying to go through a toll booth or a ticket type car park barrier!

i was just looking on the samba to see how much cheapness there is in the states! MMMM cheap buses!

I will add it to my collection if you like...hehehe

that would then be the grand total of 2 :D
