As above really, I need to remove the handbrake cable from the rear drums to then drill a whole in the spring plate and run it through there rather than under the spring plate following fitting horse shoe plates.

I've had the hub nut off and hub and it seem attached by a spring tyre system. How do I remove it from the hub?

Pop a piccy up Matt, I think yours is a little different to mine, just a tad. Mines 1970. From memory, I had the big old nut off, slackened the shoes back a bit, popped the drum off, released the shoes to back brake clip / spring, dragged the bottom of the shoes off the adjusters and gently off the top cylinder and the pair of shoes comes out with the springs on and with the handbrake assembly, unhooked the shoe return spring and the handbrake top spacer thingy gadget and took both shoes apart , again from memory. There was (on mine) a hooked bit somewhere on the end of a lever and that`s where the handbrake cable hooked on, I think you had to almost turn it inside out to get the cable off. Go a bit stady when you`re loosening the outer as they can get rusted onto the back plate. :D

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,Let`s hope my memory is ok ! ;) 8) ;)

P.S. Worth taking a few different angle photos once the drum is off, just to jog where it all goes.

Where the cable exits the drum there is a clip at the end of the spring to load the spring when you pull the handbrake. Remove the clip and you can pull the cable and spring and everything out from behind. Might be a little stuck but just jank on it a bit and it will come out.

right folks, been trying to get this clip off but not got a clue, is it jammed between the moulding that comes out the back backplate and the metal shrouding thats over the cable ?

Hi James, you are definitely testing my grey cells now. From memory, everything was so rusted up on one side that I couldn`t get it out because it was all rusted together and it disintegrated with the force required to shift it. Even though I`d soaked it with penetration (Ooooh errr) fluid, and I really think you have to soak it and clean it off then soak it some more until you can see where it`s all happening, From memory, the clip was on the inside of the backing plate where the pressing for the cable entry is.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Proper fluid, not WD 40

cheers ozziedog, that makes a bit more sense now, see i thought it was on the outside of the backing plate holding the spring and that other small round piece inside. and if it is on the inside how do you get it out, i assume it wont come out the back of the plate ? haha something so simple and i can't get past it.

Gave up with trying to prise it off and decided to take the not so easy way out  and chop the handbrake part out then twisted it off, it appears no clip on mine and just slots straight in. Thanks for the help :D
