Am perhaps looking to upgrade to twin carbs when funds allow but they all seem to come with no cold start system or chokes. Can someone tell me why this is and how you go about starting from cold.

because of the carb postion in relation to the head the start up warming time is decreased, the start for my dells is a few quick pre ignition pumps on the accel pedal and then start, it is slighlty lumpy for a few seconds from cold, but quickly settles down and they do give better mpg than a single in most applications............

I had twin 34 ict's on my old 1641 and never had a problem starting from cold even when it was -4 degrees outside!!!
