Have you checked to see if the carb is not loose? also is the timing all set up after this new carb? :D

Is the timing correct for your distributor?
Theres a website somewhere(oldvolkshome??) that I can't find at the moment that tells you what the timing should be for your distributor part number.

Its here:

Also may be worth checking the fuel pump and the fuel pump rod is correct for that pump. There are 2 types

Have you checked the vacuum advance on your dizzy? Take the pipe off the carb, take the dizzy cap off and suck on the pipe to see if the plate in the dizzy moves (sorry if you already know how to do this) - this could be causing your hesitation.

;)

New GSF carb? :?
 clem you may enlighton me...the carb is a pict 34 no visible markings or stamping to highlight its oragins it has a part no on it but thats all apart from the fffff.flat spot it seems ok yep i know flat spot cant be ok then can it..

I've got one of those - no markings - after my solex popped its backfire plug (points closed up). I had problems with cold running - I've since put back the original solex which I treated to a GSF refurb kit - it's a bit hesitant when cold but is going.

Back to you issue - if it's when you press the accelarator, is the accelerator pump working ok? No squirt would make it hesitant.

(In the past, with other carbs, setting the mixture too rich would do the same thing - a good squirt from the pump making it well too rich. But I don't know if that's true of the solex - depends how much it's relying on the idle circuit (which could be too rich) - someone more expert will come along in a mo, I suspect)

Cheers,
Nick

the accelerator pump is a good shout they are adjustable by a cam on the throttle spindle too much or too little fuel when opening the throttle could cause a flat spot.
also have a look what jets you have it might be supplied with beetle ones and they are different. there is a thread soewhere explaining the dark art of emolsion tubes idle jet main jet and so on.

+1 accelerator pump. Sorted my flat spot out
