Took my 8 year old daughter to join the canoe club today. The guy says she should really be 12 to join but because shes tall and can swim well she can have a go to see if she likes it.
In she popped and took off. No worries or nerves at all, just like she'd done it hundreds of times. Never tipped it or anything. I was gob smacked and so was the instructor fella.
All he said was "Bring her back next week and well try her in another boat" (better straight line but less stable)
Think she enjoyed herself, and took no rockin tonight.

great story - good on her! - they're Fearless, when you think about the things you'd do on a bike that you wouldn't (couldn't) do now!!

The location is at the quay side in Exeter and its a really nice location if the weathers nice (can get windy). A friend called today and invited my daughter over for next weekend to go on her trampoline and my daughter said she cant go because shes got canoe club  , so hopefully its not going to be a flash in the pan thing.
Im affraid Doris im still trying to do some of those crazy things we did on bikes. My body gets older but not the mind.

 looks like shes been doing it for years. My dad has a farm had my 4 year old daughter with me once we were in a pen with the sheep and she'd not been in with them before and out of no where she grabbed one and held on to it (seen me do it before) i was like eeeerm ok we''ll worm that one :D

Looks like one very happy, confident and competent little girl! My boy is messing around at field hockey on Sunday mornings (Ow, shins!) don't know how long it will last, but the more opportunities they get for different activities the better in my book. He's just been on an activity weekend with climbing, sailing, quad bikes and all that stuff. Loved it to bits. Got to get us back on the dry ski slope soon before he (I mean me!) forgets how!!! And yes, kids are truly amazing.

My girls had a cast on her arm since Wednesday, and its on her right arm (she right handed) - the speed that shes adapted and got on with it has amazed me, she pretty independant and will re-do things weve done for her to try and help her  The had an op Wednesday and insisted on returning to school on Friday

Jon - those canoe pics are cool. Fair play to her. :)

I have 3 girls:

The eldest is 16, her talent is fleecing me for cash at every opportunity.....I don't even know how she does it! She's now planning how she will pass her driving test, then talking about all the trips her and her friends will take in my bus...... The worst bit is - I know I'll give it up, I don't know why, I just will!

My middle daughter is 11, and able to make me feel guilty for everything, if she does something she shouldn't, get punished (for what thats worth) then I end trying to make it up with her.....cause she looks so sad!

My youngest is 6.....she has both me and my wife wrapped around her finger, puppy dog eyes and a wit that can't be matched allows her to get away with things, and again - I can't work out how...

Don't start me on activities....it seemed great at the time, but now ferrying between, surfing, swimming, ballet, gymnastics, martial arts etc etc

I just feel like a chauffeur/bank manager/psychiatrist!!!

Your right though, kids are amazing.....manipulative, spoilt and all that stuff, but amazing none the les

I know what you mean mate with the ballet, swimming, gym and brownies etc. Im glad she likes the canoe club though because i can join in and id look a right bugger in tights and a tu-tu.
Dramas the next club thats being hinted at. i just keep saying she has enough practice of that at home so why take extra lessons?

My daughter (2 years old in a week or so) saw I was working on the van yesterday, yelled "Daddies camperpan" (her word for campervan), ran inside grabbed her screw-daddy (her word of screwdriver) and ran back outside to join me so we could both work on our vans together.

At that moment, I'm sure a fly flew into my eye my eyes started filling up with tears ;)
