Spent today at bresingham steam museum with family n friends near diss. Had a good time n snapped this pic when leaving. Look at that loco it's huge

I was also thinking as I drove through diss ( any one local will know that driving through diss Main Street is a bitch always busy ) how long can u b stuck in traffic before you're engine overheats . Me n the mis wer chattin bout it she said a couple of hours ( lol ) I was thinking 25 mins I dunno ???
I'm new to busses ?

was worried what I was going to see when I clicked on this thread
looks like a good day out :D

your engine should run in a traffic jam for hours without overheating if all your tin and thermostats are fitted - the fan is always running so there is no reason for it to overheat, this country is nowhere near as warm as some countries these vans were used in, also although this may sound daft, if your engine is hot after climbing a steep hill for example when you get to the top don't turn off to let it cool down, keep it ticking over the engine will cool quicker running than stopped.

I'm disappointed Ricky, a post about trains and you reply without mentioning it :msn4:

I think all my tin is there ?
I don't think I've any thermostats  should I ?
My van is stock no added extras
I'm surprised you say I should b fine in traffic, but I'm glad cos I had been panicking after a few minutes , maybe silly but unless u r told u don't know? It's not water cooled so I assumed after a few mins of sitting still I'd have problems lol

the thermostats theory - should you shouldn't you will open a can of worms....
i can tell you 2 things - vw fitted them for a reason
when i fitted mine i noticed a more uniform temperature on the guage rather than fluctuations of 20-30 degrees.

i'm not up on steam trains although that looks like an american one to me with the smoke chimney funnel and the cow catcher.

I don't have any temp gauges on my bus. I must admit I'd like to cos temp is always on my mind when driving it. Is it a big hassle and expense ?

they aren't called "worry gauges" for nothing i have a cylinder head temp gauge, theres a sensor that sits under the spark plug on cylinder 3, you can get oil temp ones that plug into the sump or the dipstick tube, they are a good indication if your engine is running hotter than usual but you do tend to look at them too much and flap if it creeps up...

Ahhhh I need worry gauges!
Then I can worry even more than I do now lol,

Seriously should I have them ... Do all u guys have um ?

I got a monster tacho with about four other smaller guages built in, one for oil temp, one for oil pressure, one is now for the battery etc etc and it looks absolutely ace 8) 8) 8)

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,,, But none of em are connected,,,,,, I`d worry too much

Been there a few times, only a half hour up the road from me. Got some cool 50s dodgem cars their, kids love them!
Done my first big trip in my bus a few weeks ago. 600 mile trip to Dorset, left suffolk at 8 in morning got to camp site at 4! Stuck on m25 in traffic, was worried myself about overheating.
But bus didn't miss a beat, ticked over lovely in traffic, think the electronic ignition i had fitted the day before i went helped alot. now I've got that under my belt feel more confident now!
