It depends on time of travel. Rush hour on the M6 around Birmingham is very long mid week, from before 7:00am to around 7:00pm, however Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons are pretty straightforward.

Personally I try to avoid both the queues and the M6 toll road which I despise with a vengeance on the grounds that roads are inherently a public good and to privatise them is to unduly tax the less able to pay. But that's another debate!

I'm confused. How much has anyone paid to use the m6 toll ?

Looks like we will be charged the van pricing at the automated tolls based upon the height of the vehicle over the front axle, which makes it 11 Quid each way - the same as a 42 Tonne truck !! You may meet a lenient operator at the manual tolls

That is the exact thing that confused me. What a rip offf. Just wanted to know what people have actually paid who have used it recently. If its .£11 I won't use it

That's £22 to cover 54 miles (27 each way) or, to put it another way, the equivalent of getting less than 9 miles per gallon on that stretch of road. You need to weigh that against the time saving.

It's currently closed by the way - security scare or something.

Yep, we count as Class 4...Just!
I was lucky and had a nice lady who was sympathetic and let me off with normal car price (£5 ish) but she said most operators wouldn't and the automated barriers would charge a camper £11 cos of the front axle to roof height.

First and last time on the toll for me in the Bus!!

On a related note, I've driven that section of the M6 many many times and every time the sign board says M6 Toll Clear. Anyone know if this ever changes, even if the toll is congested, closed etc, or is it just a marketing tool to get you on there?

A mate got charged the full rate on the way last year, it's calculated on the body height over the front axle....

I got stung on the way to VoWo and it was around a tenner, cant remember. I was told it was because i was sitting over the axle. :?

AS with others on here I got stung the first time I used it in the van which then also beacme the last. No good reason for paying that much. On the same journey I paid the usual £1.50 at Dartford. What's the differenec?

i wouldnt go near it with a ten foot barge pole  they charged me the same as an hgv £11 and i did,nt even save that in fuel complete rip off and trying to reason with them on the phone is a complete waste of time .. :stonehim: ....sorry it still bugs me...
