Hi all,

What kind of juice use does your van get?

I "think" i'm low 20's - running a 1600sp - no interior.

I haven't got a scooby if this sounds about right?

Anyone?

Ta!

Dazzla

Not to sure on mine, but if i fill the tank right up (about £40 from nothing) then I drive to Newquay from Bristol about 166 miles. When i get there I have used up just over half a tank, so about £25 worth.

Not sure what that is but it aint bad atall.
:D

Basing my sums on the current price of 89.9p a litre that is roughly 28mpg.

OK

So what kind of things should be on my check list to ensure I'm not just wasting fuel? (I am currently getting near as damn it 21mpg  ) On a steady run @ about 55mph.....

Help!

My 74 bay managed 26-27 mpg on a 300 mile run to cornwall at 65 mph on motorways. Things that can affect fuel consumption:-

Brakes binding, possible but unlikely.
Low tyre pressures, possble.
Clogged air filter, possible.
Worn carb jets/poorly adjusted carb, possible.
stuck choke flap, possible.
Ignition timing incorrect, possible. I think vacum advance distibutors are supposed be more fuel efficient to 009's but my 74 runs one and mpg is ok.
I'm sure this list is not exhaustive but these could be areas to look at, but if your bus is running happily it is probably not worth spending loads to rectify the problem unless you are doing a lot of miles. I think these vehicles are renowned for being thirsty, so i think i'll just keep filling the tank up on my 68 and forget about it, just as long as it keeps on going.

Would love a set of ict's tho

Hope this is of some help.

I get about 24 mpg with a 1700 averaging through town and motorway. Worth every penny!!!

I think my bus would have been managing about 2mpg if i hadnt spotted the fuel leak this evening. Earlier on i replaced the right hand heat exchanger, this was a job in itself having to chisel and split the rusted cyl head nuts off and luckily the stud threads were ok, at the same time i noticed the fuel hose at the base of the fuel tank was damp but didnt smell of petrol, gave it a wiggle and all seemed ok, job done i thought. Popped out later to put the cover on an smelled the petrol, nice puddle of fuel on my tarmac, or what was tarmac!!, i have just spent the last 2 hours draining the tank and the bus is going nowhere until i get some new hose, could have been a lot worse if i hadn't spotted it
