Went to Aberdovey yesterday lovely weather for a picnic on the beach, also saw a couple of early bays, an especially nice 67/68 us import lowered on Radars dead jealous if it was yours.
Getting ready to go home and the kids (Son and Niece both 7) wanted a last go in the park before leaving, just got in there and my son trips up on the spongy tarmac they have in parks now and goes down flat on his front next the screaming starts "my elbow hurts" have a quick look but can't see anything, more crying and agony if he moves his arm.
trip to casualty and xray result nasty break just above the elbow, a sleepless night in hospital and more xrays and plaster on Thursday . Everyone was brilliant that we saw but all that hanging around drives me loopy "When can we go is it time yet ?" every 5 mins from 6 am till 11 am this morning.

Yes touch wood, he's enjoying all the attention and get well pressies  me and my wife are just shattered .

Bad luck dude - worth remembering though that once the pain has worn off he'll love all that "Can I sign your plastercast" stuff!!

Cup of warm milk and off to bed with you!!...

;)

Nightmare - thought that spongey stuff was suposed to stop breakages  - at least he's on the mend now and hopefully you've caught up on your sleep.

Was in Aberdovey on Friday too (hoping it was our van your kind words are about) - there was also a bright blue cross over on Empi 5s, with I'm guessing a water cooled V6 in it too - the front panel was louvered and the VW badge was replaced with a custom V6 badge - looked crazy (and cool) but didn't see the owner unfortunately to ask about it. My son liked it 'cause it was his favourite colour. Wasn't yours was it (didn't see any other early bays unfortunately)?

Hi dp thats what I thought about the spongey tarmac as well but I think he must of landed awkwardly and that caused the break . I saw that blue xover as well didn't see the owner either, if you were there with the family I did see you putting your stuff in the camper as we were on our way to the park  I shall make sure I say hello next time, if I had on friday it may have changed the rest of the day, fate and karma permitting
I must say your van looked the dogs .... I'm very jealous.

Often in Aberdovey so maybe next time (though I'm often in my knackered old Seat when it's windy and the family aren't there  ).

Broken arm from falling on surface designed to stop breaks = 'where there's blame, there's a claim' Surely you can claim for his loss of earnings from working in the mines!

Yes that's what I thought but then he's enjoying the time from school  and I don't like this blame culture that seems to be on every other advert on the telly.
We were there in our ahem Vauxhall zafira as still got a couple of jobs to get the van through the MOT and there were too many of us for the Beetle, but I'll look out for you as we are there pretty regularly.

I know this thread is an old one but I've picked up on the Aberdovey link. Nice to see local EB owners. I'm around the coast between Mach and Aberystwyth. Pick up my 72 Bay in about 3-4 weeks time and the first jaunt will be Ynyslas with the kettle on. I'm a nurse but don't work in casualty (Iorwerth Medical me) so can't say I met your good selves. Good fortune with the journeys and hope all is well. Good fortune and hope to spot you about sometime. Gray Summers.

Hi Nick

Sorry to hear about the little one, casualty is never a good place.

Just a comment about the matting - I think it has a guarantee on it that says something like :

" In the case of a fall head first from 1 meter the matting will probably stop braindamage"

Very vague

Thanks David for the response re: my flickr photos. Just an amateur that likes to relax and photograph a few local views. If you ever get to visit this part of the country....please don't miss out on a visit to the Ynyslas Dunes. For my dreams ? It'll be so much better sitting at the side of my bay (un-named as yet), kettle whistling, food cooking, conversation brewing, music chuntering in the background and the priceless opportunity of sleeping over in a place where the evening/morning light will be a photographer's god-send hey ? The view up top in the ''Two great campsites in Wales...'' thread (a few miles around the coast from me) is a real fine place to start. Enthusiastic...or what ? :D Good fortune. Gray Summers.

Hi it's good to hear of another fairly local EB , I have to say everyone at the hospital in Aber was brilliant with us and Tom is fine again now although the first time we went back to Aberdovey he didn't want to go in the park.
Ynyslas is also one of my favorites as well

This was January this year with the frost on the sand.

Mid and West Wales van population seems on the Increase.

I have to say both Aberdovey and Ynyslas are beautifull and will be visiting all over the summer, I was lucky enough to live in Aberdovey for a couple of years and had some fab times and memories, Even met my now wife there.

Sucks, but look at it this way, he is 7. That means he will heal well and quickly. Good luck to you and momma though.

I feel your pain :( Hope yours is fixing well.

I was in my workshop last night and got the call ..... daughter had tumbled from her high bed (messing about) and hit the floor hard.
In A and E till early hours and back this morning to hospital for a minor op. Shes had it re-set and is now in plaster for a month or so ...

Poor little mite :(

Kids eh  thanks for your words of support, I started this thread a year ago and thankfully he has made a full recovery although the doctor has told us he will need an annual check up to make sure his arm is growing straight till he is about 16 due to where he broke it. But he seems to have forgotten about it now and just gets stuck in again.
