I swapped my empi 5s for some chrome o.e/356 style wheels as i was bored of my empis but all the way home thought shouldn't have done it but convinced myself now it was a good idea (i think) got to find some red band inserts then watch this space

be careful with them inserts dude

VERY CAREFUL!

I ran them for a year and even though i used the correct rubber grease they created a groove into the tyre sidewall quite deep.

I have heard of people whose tyres have blown out so imo leave it they might look good on a trailered showcar but not for everyday use.

I ran red band trims for years on my daily, and never had any trouble with them. All I'll say is make sure they're properly fitted otherwise you will have issues.

Incidently I've currently got a set of red band trims and grease up for sale.

You could always get them done by the company who does hotrods in er southampton i think. They paint them on specially, all done in a day.

Inserts are fine as long as you take care of them and fit em correctly. I am not a fan, so have gone for molded whitewalls, look better and none of the worries.
:D

BAY AREA RODS have a guy who comes down with the old machine that cuts the groove and then paints it in.
the girlfriends bug has whitewall flaps and they rubbed a bit but nothing to worry about really, i wouldnt let her drive it if it was.

get a pic up of those 356 rims i like em ALOT and if you dont want them i might take off you a put on mine if and when i get one
