I know must of us put up with small oil leaks, marking the drive isn't the end of the world! But my bus is driving me nuts, if I go over 50mph I have oil going onto my exhaust and lots of smoke, the back of the bus is completely covered in oil, I had the rear main oil seal changed when my gearbox was installed, there was a couple of drops of oil on the gearbox mount, and a small drop where the gearbox joins the engine, and one pushrod tube leaking, i know it gets drawn back once the bus is moving but i cant see these two leaks causing the whole of the back of the bus to be covered in oil.
My helpfull neighbour tells me it's properly coming out of the exhaust and spraying the bus in oil, if this is the case is it a case of just a set of rings, or is it going to be a lot more.
Any help with ideas or suggestions as I want to get out and use it but can't stand the smoke :)

It's a type one motor with single carb and quite pack exhaust, another question is could it be breather related, it hasn't got an original air filter, if this makes any difference???

Thanks in advance

Easiest way to see if it is coming out of the exhaust is to wait until the engine is cold and wipe your finger round the inside of the exhaust..

If the soot is gungy, then it's coming out the exhaust... That's going to be rings or valve guides..

Mine was doing exactly the same it turned out to be the push rod tube seals I had smoke bellowing out of the back end, loads of oil spraying everywhere and quite smelly inside, changed the seals and everything ok again

Bazzaworld been out today after cleaning the underside of the engine, 30 Mile trip at a steady 45-50mph and I stopped and checked a few times and its the pushrods tubes causing the leak, but only a few speck of oil on the rear hatch and engine lid, maybe over 50mph there would be more oil leaking and more on the rear of the bus?
Are adjustable push rod tubes any good, I know original is always best but do the adjustable pushrods tubes do the job, I have a set already they are the blue anodised tubes with the ends in gold, I think they maybe Empi

problem with them aftermarket tubes is they LEAK !!!
they don't expand an contract with engine temps like the stock ones
so 'STOCK' is the best ,, just a pain in the ass to change
I had to use JC's spring loaded ones on one of my Drag motors because of the FK87 cam made the rods hit the stockers an had to go bigger tubes for clearance
kind of pricey at $100  ;)

Thanks for all advise/info I think I'll go with OG pushrods as I don't want to use adjustable tube in case they fail, and the set I have already are missing the seals :-(
