Is the oil pressure switch the same thing as the oil pressure sender? That thing that's screwed in to the side of the crankcase on the lower left of the engine looking into the engine bay?
 
No, a sender unit provides a voltage proportional to the oil pressure. This feeds a gauge to show the pressure. An oil pressure switch is a digital output, below a certain pressure it grounds the terminal and lights the oil pressure warning light. Above a certain pressure it goes open circuit and turns the light off.

You can't swap between the two.

I see where you are coming from Lee. So, the thing on the lower left is a pressure switch, looks a bit like truncated cone. A pressure sender looks more like a small can and is usually optional and fitted in tandem to a pressure switch.

Here you can see an oil pressure sensor (round shape) and smaller oil pressure switch (hexagonal shape): :mrgreen:
