Hi,

My bus just wont idle. It starts first thing no problem, and runs fine whilst the choke is on, but as soon as the choke drops out it just wants to stall each time I stop at a junction/traffic light etc. This is supposedly due to worn spindle/seals (allowing too much air into the chamber, and leaning out the fuel mixture).

I have a stock 1600 with a single Solex carb (pict 30 or 34 - not checked yet) and currently I've two options for swapping out my carb. A 2nd hand Solex Pict 34 (which needs rebuilding), or a Bocar Pict 34-3 (apparently in very good running condition).

Would a rebuilt Solex perform better/be more reliable than the Bocar?

So, given the choice, which would you guys opt for?

Cheers,

Mike
PS: I apologise if this question has already been asked/answered. I did search for Bocar, but only found mentions of the carbs being used - not as to people having any problems/issues.

I'm running a solex 34 pict 3 on a stock 1600 - it's been cleaned thoroughly and doesn't leak any air and it performs really well. Can't comment on bocar but I certainly wouldn't change from the solex if you can get a rebuilt one.

Cheers

Johnny

I chose rebuilt solex and it's been good.

You better check whether you have 30 or 34,

if you have 30 currently a 34 will probably be no good for your setup

If you have a search of bocar carbs they have quite a poor reputation. Mine has pretty much given up the ghost and would have gone for a rebuilt Solex but decided to upgrade to twin carbs :D

I had a Bocar on my 1641 and in fairness it ran well. Only had 1 problem once, when the temperature sensor came loose on the side letting air in (and giving exactly the symptoms you describe!) but I nipped it up and all was good again.

I have it in the garage and can sell if you need it (this is not a sales pitch as I'm happy to keep it as stock spares!) or if you are in the Brentwood area and want to borrow it to test/tide you over then you're welcome to come and get it.

Thanks for the comments guys. All helpful info. I checked my carb - it's a 34 PICT3. Will go for the Solex option and get a rebuild kit for it. It should be ok short term :)

I'm having another engine built at the moment so the original engine is just to poodle about in and shake out all the gremlins :)
