Just bolloxed the spring clip locator on a SP head (turned to powder) gonna grind them down, just wondering if anyone has the bolt on covers? how do they fit and what is the fit like?

Should have had the camera with me, Sprouty your engines was a peach compared to this pig I'm working on :x why people treat these hard working motors with such disregard :?

My quest to get a good standard 1600 SP lump (emergency standby) running for less than £100 is going slow this really is proving a pain (£30 spent on the motor and I've binned most of the tin, dynamo heat exchangers hmmm may need to do some recycling soon and dig into the shed)....

I've got the bolt on rocker covers on the 1641cc engine fitted to my bug.

I believe they are what is stopping it from running. It pees oil at the rate of one drip a second all over the heat exchanger.

Probably not the news you wanted to hear - the good news is the other side is completely leak free. Good luck :?

Cheers for that its kind of what I thought, but the heads are otherwise sound or at least once I've reseated the valves, de coked etc may have to use some hylamar blue on the gaskets...where do they screw on to? cam bolts?

They screw onto the 2 bolts that hold the rocker gear on. I can't remember the exact details but I'm sure there was a few metal blocks or something that screw on to allow the fitting of them. I think blue hylamar would be a must.

I can't remember the exact details, it was at least 6 weeks since I tried fixing em. Given up on that engine now, I've gone back to my slow 1300 again.

Just been through all my engine pics, that is about the only thing I don't have a photo of. Sorry!

No worries I think my questions been answered cheers for that...The engine was only a standby get me going when the 1776 dies...just really trying to see if I could resurrect the beast as a cheap project...

i have csp bolt on rocker covers on my bay with no problems.

i have bolt on rockers

the probs i had was with the spring type as mine kept leaking, but a mate gave me his bolt on type

fitted them after engine rebuild and have had NO PROBS at all

so there is good points and bad points about them

its up to you buddy

Ran a pair on my split. Yes they did leak oil at first but then used some engine sealant ( can't remember what it's called but got from GSF and was blue )

This sorted the problem and ran fine with no leaks at all.

The sealant is not some back street crap as it's used to seal engine cases.

OK, I've found why my one was leaking

Done mine with some red hermatite and it seems to be OK. I don't know if semi-hardening is the best to use but that's what I had.

Doesn't leak now!
