You have always had to pay to park overnight in the services, lets be honest would you build a service area, spend money building a carpark install lights and then let people park overnight for free, i have always paid to park overnight in any services i have stopped in,in the uk,the cost ie expensive but you do get a meal voucher thrown in in the price. This may sound harsh but its a Bank holiday weekend there is bound to be a lot of traffic on the road it amazes me that people dont allow a lot more time for travelling on the lead up to a bank holiday and also if the time you pulled in was late you wouldnt have got in the show at that time of night anyway,we as a club had people leaving Bristol at rush hour and they still got to the show by 9 all the rest of us took a day off or half a day so we could miss the unstoppable traffic problems that always happen on the m5

Sounds like things are tough for you blokes. In all my experience with beauraucracy I have found that a letter admitting my fault and sincerely apologising for my ineptness has sometimes got me out of trouble. It might get the fine reduced to the original charge.
I reckon one thing is for sure; if you ignore it, it will follow you to the afterlife and beyond!

On the highways here in Aus we have rest stops every so often on the side of the roads, some have toilet facilities and some don't. The better ones have separate areas for trucks and cars, the smaller ones are just like the "pit lane" type of arrangement. I"ve never had much success sleeping in these smaller ones as the traffic is a bit close as it roars by and very noisy.
They are all maintained by the roads authorities. As for the commercial Roadhouses I have never come across one that charges for parking up and sleeping on their tarmac. They all have vast areas for trucks to park in. Most of these places have showers as well as the usual toilets, so you can freshen yourself up and then spend up on a meal before hitting the road again.
