Bus has been sold - thank you!

This bus was owned by the same family for the last 45 years and is an excellent, amazing, original example of a bus. To any true VW aficionado, original paint and patina buses like these are nearly impossible to find - and they’re only getting harder and harder to come across.

The bus runs and drives great, and is ready for a new, loving owner. Here’s the scoop:

Originality:
Original key, jack and tool kit in glove box
Original Delta Green paint - bus exterior has not been repainted, and on the underside the flaking original Waxoyl undercoating reveals the beautiful Delta green as it looked from the factory.
Original fully-intact headliner and interior right down to the pedal pads. The middle seat was replaced with one from a different bus, but it matches condition, fit and finish of the rest of the interior.
Original engine/trans and mechanical pieces and parts (other than maintenance/wear items that have been replaced with new).
All of the original VW/HELLA lenses and lights

Current Condition:
This bus will take you wherever you want to go! Starts, runs, drives and stops great, and I’ve put 3-400 miles on it within the last few weeks. All lights and accessories work as they should except the radio, which lights up but doesn’t produce sound (I don’t think it’s hooked to the speaker).

Recent Work (I’m an ASE certified mechanic, not to mention a certified a VW aficionado):
Engine - excellent shape with 120psi compression across the board. It was rebuilt and (I believe) enlarged to 1776 approximately 10-15K miles ago. The following work was just done (with quality parts, mind you!):
Rear main seal
Oil cooler seals
Complete tune up (distributor cap/rotor/condenser/points/spark plugs etc)
[the original] VW 30-Pict3 Carburetor rebuilt and tuned
New motor mounts
Valves adjusted
New Engine compartment seal
New Gates Barricade fuel hoses
New vacuum hoses
Air cleaner cleaned and oiled
New tailpipe assembly installed
Transmission - shifts perfectly, no popping out of gears
Brand new complete LUK clutch kit (including throwout bearing)
New Flywheel
Clutch cable adjusted to spec
New GL-4 Gear oil
Axles/boots intact and old but in good shape
Brakes: 100% new, from master cylinder on out to each wheel. Function perfectly with a hard, high pedal.
New Master Cylinder
New Stop light switches
All new brake hoses
At each wheel:
All new wheel cylinders
All new brake shoes
All new hardware
The original VW brake drums were lightly turned (with lots of meat left)
Chassis/Suspension/other:
New front wheel bearings
Suspension greased
New rear shocks (KYB GR-2’s)
New Interstate battery
Actual steering system is tight - tie rod ends, drag link, etc. The steering box needs to be adjusted or swapped (see below)
Tires are nearly new in terms of tread with no evidence of dry rot, however they are old tires and are bigger than the stock tire.
Bus was recently detailed (the original paint buffed to a shine and interior cleaned)

What it needs:
Ball joints are fine, but the rubber boots are torn
Wheels are missing some of the hub cap clips - new set included
Steering box has a little ‘chunk’ in it when you’re steering around center point. Extra, used box included.
Rust repair needed as necessary. See photos - rust in rockers, outriggers, battery tray, small section front pass floor, bottom of front doors on the outside skin but not the bottom of the actual doors. Rust is limited to typical areas, and not overtaking this bus by any stretch.
rust-free front doors included if desired
Your touch!

This one-family owner bus is an excellent example that needs to get into the right hands of someone who will cherish it for what it's worth and treat it right! Asking $6,000 pounds OBO, and I've shipped buses fromt he states before and will work with you to ship! Email me at [email protected]!
