Evening all, my next job I'm looking to carry out on the bus is some sounds. I currently have no speakers at all, also I have new door cards so nothing cut out yet. I think I know what stereo I'm going to get, this one below from eBay.

Anyone got one of these? Or any reason to stay away?
I'm not after a massive thumping system (I've grown out of that  ) so what speakers can people recommend? And where's best to put them?
Cheers, Brett.

I am in a similar dilemma. I want sounds but I don't like the look of those retro ones that fit the hole... I haven't found time to investigate fully but it seems like £150 buys a retro radio (a real one) with an MP3 minijack kit on it... that would fit the original aperture and provide a bit of "wireless" for driving along... Radio 4 or what have you.

Either that or it's leave the Sapphire in the dash and wire an iPod direct into an amp... I have a Roberts DAB jobbie that lives on the table when we're parked up and pipes Radios 4 and 6 out as appropriate.

Interested to hear how you solve this!

I have an original blaupunkt that I wired a phono lead into, the (mono) output went into an amp then 4 speakers, managed to wire into the switch to power the remote. It was cool for a while but not the best as the volume control never worked that well....

Now I have a parrot MKI9200 that is switched on by the above blaupunkt (as is the amp) 4 speakers powered by t he amp that comes with the parrot, other amp now powers a Sub.....Bluetooth audio, iPhone charger, hands free calling. Figured this is still better than a modern head unit in the dash. Now I just need better speakers.....

I've got a nice old motrola (F.O.C) in dash for effect and a newish alpine unit (£30ish ebay) hidden under the glovebox with aux in etc, couple of 17cm speakers in the kick panels. Sounds good for the money, just need some low frequency sounds so thinking of adding a cheap amp and small sub between the front wheel tubs under my bench seat - just need to wait till something suitable turns up on ebay cheap enough.

Theres a firm thet rebuilds etype jags on the complex where I've got my unit and they've fit both the modern retro styled radios as well as old AM units rebuilt with aux in and modern FM radios, after seeing and hearing both I'd err towards the modern retro styled ones, however they always fit naff tiny speakers in the centre console so its hard to gauge fully. Both options are over priced in my eyes - but I am a cheap skate though.
