Hi All,

Sure this must have been asked many times but not having much look with the search.

Not a fan of wiring jobs but as there's only 2 wires I'm unsure on where to connect i thought I'd ask.

The perm live and switched live (red/yellow) for a stereo ... how are people running these off the original fuse box? Mines a 71 if it makes any diff.

Cheers

Thanks! It's which fuse I connect to for each that I needed advice with :0)

Looking at the 71 models wiring diagram in Bentley, permanent live could be any of fuses 7, 8 or 9. Switched live 10, 11 or 12. However, something that should be checked out is whether piggybacking off any of these fuses will over load the wiring / blow existing fuses.

Thanks for that. Was wondering about one of the inline fuses too as the old original unit I've just removed did have remains of one.

I like to take the feed off the unfused side of the fuse board, and fit my own inline fuse (normally use something like a Mini fusebox, you can use the other three fuses for other stuff). That way you don't have to worry about blowing the original fuse with the additional current draw of your radio.
It's a good idea (especially with the permanent live) to check out the wiring can handle it, too.
Work out the wire from a wiring diagram- Looks like the main feed from the battery is at fuse #8. Pull that fuse out, and the fuses on either side, too.

Now take a multimeter and a pen and paper. Turn EVERYTHING on in the camper, and measure the current draw across the three fuses, and add it together (because all of those 3 fuses come from the same red and white wire). That's the total existing current draw through that thick red and white wire that goes straight to the battery. That one's 6mm^2, so should be able to handle 30 amps.
Next, check your current rating for the radio*, add it to the current draw you just worked out, is it under 30amps? If so you're golden, if not I'd think about running another permanent live feed to the radio.

*current rating can usually found in the manual, or on a sticker on the radio. If it's not there, check the size of the fuse in the back of the radio and use that. If there isn't one of those, use 10A.
