It means a section is taken away from the chassis of a very lowered vehicle to allow for (in the case of a bay) trackrods up frt and drive shafts out back.

You chop a section out of the rear or front chassis ,so as you go lower your
drive shafts and tie rods dont foul the chassis

And you must have to brace in some way to compensate for the removed material Frankie.
 
Correct by competeing the box section again should suffice although not always, you need to look at exactly how your notching it, theres a great shot in one of the for sale threads of a full front notch on a bus that was being broken.... a lot of work and not one for the feint of heart.....

I now have these chassis sections if anyone wants to buy them!!! ..

I didn't need them in the end ..
