Folks,

If swapping from Single Port to Twin port - how much (if any) of the tinware is reusable?

Thanks all,Rich

Bits of tin you can't reuse:
- cylinder head (the opening on the cylinder head where the manifold goes is a different shape)
- fanshroud (has to clear the doghouse oil cooler)

I think that's it to be honest!

Thanks Gvee.

If the fan housings are different, are the fans themselves the same – and what about the two round discs on the fan spindle that bolt up to the rear doghouse – are they the same too?

Thanks again, sorry to pester!

Rich

You're right - the fans are a different depth.
I'm not sure what you mean by "round discs on the fan spindle"?

You've jogged my memory about other changes too (sorry!):

- Two extra pieces of tin that go behind (gearbox side of) the fanshroud (see here)
- The rear (over the gearbox) tin is different. It has a hole in it for the one of the pieces mentioned above
- The "Hoover Bit". If you can get one, you should! It attaches to the fan (see here)
- Thermostatic flaps are different on a TP/SP... I think the depths are different as is the linkage bar

Thanks George - I meant these bits...

"Alternator Backing Plates". according to this crowd!!

Cheers again, Rich

Are you changing from a dynamo to an alternator? If so, you'll need different tin.
If you're just changing from SP to TP and keeping your existing, then you'll be fine.

Yeah, swapping SP to TP at the moment I think, I'll stick with the generator for the time being.

I had dropped off my SP tinware for powder coating and someone tipped me the wink just in time - I managed to stall the bus just before I got a load of incorrect tinware beautified!

Just increasing the number of ports and cc's and everything else in pursuit of further horsepowers!

(Present engine is properly dead!) - Have yet to decide whether 1641 or 1776 but have my heart set on Twin Carbs which pretty much means going TP. Either way I had to know today to stop the powder coaters!

Thanks all, Rich

Some one correct me if Im wrong but I think you will have to fit narrower fan housing to fit twin carbs. I fitted twin IDF's and had to change fan housing from standard to an after market fan housing as the carbs and manifolds would not fit as they were up against fan housing. :!: :?:
Robert

Depends on the carbs/manifolds.

I run an OG fanshroud with my carbs.

The carbs on the old engine that came in my bus didn't clear, so the fanshroud had been modified (with a hammer, I presume)
