when you use a early bay towbar should the there be plates welded to the towbar for bumper to bolt to towbar or does the bumper mount separately

any help would be greatly recieved

Depends on which sort you have, some are completely independent of the bumper and bolt to threads that are in the rear chassis rails whereas the tube type ones that hide behind the rear bumper used beefed up bumper irons and bolted onto these instead.

Post some pictures of what you have got,

i have not got one yet as i dont no witch one i need .the one you explained i think is the one i want but dont now how rear bumper goes on after towbar is fitted does it bolt to towbar or to chassis as before

on about fitting a orginal one if this helps

Mine slips on the beam like a bug beam. I may have a pic. I'll look.

The one Grahams on about is the westy swan neck originally came with replacement bumper irons but over the years most have gone by the wayside, most people adapt their current irons to take the bar....

As he says its almost identical just a little sturdier, it fits in exactly the same way as the current bumpers so no mods to the van itself and the towbar tucks away behind the bumper with the ball only on display a lot cleaner looking when not towing....

And Graham I'm still keeping my peepers open for you.....

Oh. Sorry, I thought he meant like something to tow his bus with.

My apologies.
