Has anyone here tried welding hubs and drums or even discs to re-drill for 5x130?

Thoughts please.

you can't redrill them safely either, theres not enough material.

Cheers, I knew there had to be good reasons.

CE hubs and drums £280...ouch.

i was thinking the same thing... i guess theres no one selling just the drum that will fit with the stock hub? in porsche pattern ofc.?

i think im going for these on the front now....

will probably have to settle for 18mm adapters on the back.

Found this "how to" a while back....

Just wondering if you could utilise 5x205 drums (plenty of meat on them) machine them down as per what this guys done to fit into 944 discs?

On the front axle of my '67 panel we installed 944NA disks and hubs by means of an adapterkit which I bought from Vdubcustoms.
Now for the back..you do not need to buy the expensive CE-hubs and drums. Find yourself (used) backplates, stub axles and drums off a late bay (that is, if you have a '68-70 bus with the 5x205-pattern). If you have a '71 or a '72, you do not need to buy any parts :D

Then install the parts as shown in the pics below (you should use late brake cylinders and brake linings as well, but you can leave the early handbrake cables in, they will fit on your new setup).

Here you see the early setup. Look closely and notice the (redrilled to a 5x130 PCD) hub, laying on the floor.

Here's why you need a late bay stub axle (length). The axle of a late baywindow is a bit less wide than the early one.

Here the (late bay) backplate is installed, but you can re-use the early one. I bought new late ones 'cause I was not sure if the early bay parts would still be usable with late bay brake linings..which they were.

Final step is putting on the redrilled hub and drum and refit the axle nut.
Here is the final result; an early bay on 5,5x15 Porsche steel wheels.

Is there enough metal to do this safely? Do you have pics of the drums?

Yes, there is more than enough material on both the hubs and the drums
(unlike the wide 5 drums, which are not reinforced at the location where you would drill the holes for the Porsche-pattern).

Please keep in mind that the function of the drum of a late bay is somewhat different than the early bay ones (does not act as a hub, which is seperate).

Don't worry, you'll be fine...go find the late bay parts and forget CE hubs and drums

Already have my Fuchs on with adapters but would like them to tuck in a little more, cheers.

This sounds interesting.
How about the front? On my crossover -72 I already have discbrakes and was thinking if I could redrill the disc and hub for 5x130? Can it be done safely too?

I think I have sorted out the front but still wondering about this rear end as I was told that I might have an issue when fitting my 7x15 Phone dials with ET23 on my -72??

Maybe it only was a problem when fitting them with an adapter and not if I redrill my hub for 5x130?
