Hi,

Right well santa brought me nothing but the usual tat this year but luckily i've managed to save about £500 for the van fund.

Only prob is i cant decide what to get?

First thoughts are as follows

Berg shifter or

New window rubbers which dont need doing right now but will before long or

Vunder-Bra or

Power upgrade i'm thinking carbs?

Anyone got any other ideas?

Cheers

Dave

Personally i'd sink it into new window rubbers, no point spending money on bus that'll be leaky, you can get the kits and probably have some pennies to spare

  I,m in the same boat, saved up me Birthday & Christmas money which will have to go on new rubber seals, not vey glamerous I know, but if I were you I,d stop the water / drafts coming in your van.
I just did a shop on Status vw & everything came to close on £400
£400 or £500 in your case will buy lots of nice goodies like shifters etc but just think of all the cracked & perished rubber leaking water & rusting your van away

Deffo go for a set of genuine rubbers, and maybe keep the spare cash in case anything a bit naughty is uncovered when the windows come out.

Easy to suggest the sensible option to someone else though, I know I'd be too tempted to spend the cash on a set of twin 34s and a bra

Hi,

Yer i think its just the one rubber thats leaking at the moment but before i got the cover on i noticed that when it rained all the rubbers leak black dirt down the body work which is practically impossible to clean off.

Also can you get the rubbers replaced and keep the deluxe trim inserts?

I dont think i could do it myself.

if whoever removes the originals is careful yes

otherwise, you're looking at new inserts - you can still buy rubbers with the slot to fit them - i think i got mine from karmann konnection a few years back

new rubbers then the shifter

I stuck a berg shifter in mine earlier this year and is the best. import from US and it is yours for about £180 with shipping and tax.

as for rubbers, I would not go anywhere apart from Status. I had the headlining replaced a few weeks ago and the windows all came out. the guy put JK (I think) ones back in aside from the windscreen one as I insisited I wanted a Status VW one fitted as the previous one leaked..

he fitted this and could not believe how much easier it was to fit - rubber is slightly softer and moulded correctly. oh and there is no wind noise now either.

dont know if that helps?

Hi,

yer that makes sense dude

i'm not sure i'll try n fit em myself though but i'll defo insist on status rubbers.

cheers

Which rubbers leaks ???

i think its the first side window near side thats leaking the rest just like to run dirty black water down the van

Try Autoglym rubber rejuvenator to clean them up to get rid of the residue that may be causing the black water.

Worth a try and a dam site easier and cheaper.

As for the leak it may be as simple as sealing with windscreen sealant.

If the rubbers aren't cracked and dried up they may last for years more.
