Hi all.A friend of mine has a 72 bay.We are fitting the windows complete with new seals. The problem is both side rear windows. They are a bitch to fit.We have tried going in from the bottom, and also the top,but they just dont want to slot in. Can any one help????

I found out it's easier to fit them out in the sun as they get softer and easier to work with.
I have also applied baby powder around the window frame, this has worked for me but I'm sure there will be more tips.
Good luck.

cheers mate .we get one end of the glass in,but its so tight in the rubber, the glass bows and cant seem to get the other end in,if you know what i mean!! :(

How are you doing this ??

I usually use a piece of long curtain cord. You know the stuff that is very strong for opening an shutting curtains with . You can buy it cheaply from Wilkinsons or Homebase etc. I then soap the cord in hand soap to lubricate the cord. Then i thread the cord into the lip of the rubber that will slot over the metal pressing of the body of the bus . Then i Ensure the two ends of the cord cross over each other usually at the bottom of said window rubber .

Then i place the window rubber seal bottom lip on to the body pressing all away along the bottom edge still with the two ends crossed over , While My friend is holding the window in place on the outside of the bus NOTE WEARING Thick gloves /gauntlets .

Now Your inside and he's outside it would be good at this point to have a third pair of hands but not essential . Your two friends now put strong pushing pressure on the window glass to ensure it doesnt move around in the aperture . And while one lad is holding the glass in place the other has his hands outside Exactly where Your string is located . Then as you pull the string out of the rubber Going carefully Not to tear it his hands keep the pressure up from the outside so the rubber then sits over the lip. After this is done all of you go outside the van and all firmly push all the way around the glass So it Seats itself into the frame  ;)

Technique above sounds good to me.

Few more tips, remember to take off all rings, watches etc. Seen a screen chipped on the final whacks home.

Warming the rubber first can also help, put it on a radiator or give it a warm up with a hair dryer. Don't soak it in hot water as you'll trap the water under the seal and the window apature will start to rot

Also a lot of people reccomend washing up liquid as a lubricant, for christ sake DON'T do this. It perishes the rubber and attacks the metalwork.
We use plain old general purpose grease. Just slap it round the window apature. Careful not to get it on the headliner. Helps the rubber slide in, gets a good seal and repels moisture.

We also found it slightly easier to work top to bottom.

And don't buy cheap seals!

Thanks Wheeto I 4 got that Bit  For Christ sake dont buy cheap windscreen seals .I fitted a genuine Vw winsreen seal on a early and 2 of us got it in place in under 5 mins . A repop ***** one took 6 of us 25 mins Nuff Said
