My passenger window winder gave up the ghost and went all ratchety the other day, so I decided to replace it. Undid all the 10mm holding it in, took the glass out of the lifter and placed in the bottom of the door and started trying to remove. It's all free but I couldn't see a way to get it out as it seems to catch either way on the quarterlight area. I've ended up cutting it to get it out, but how do I get the new one in? Do I have to remove quarterlight or anything else and if so, how? I'm stuck with a piece of plastic sheet taped in at the moment.

Forgot to say it's a '70 bay with fixed quarterlights, if that makes a difference.

I have same problem....did you ever get a reply to this...I am sure I'm missing something simple.

I believe you need to remove the quarter light and therefore the felt strip as well. Just as you would when replacing the seals I'm afraid.

This helped me

Are you just trying to remove the glass?

You should be able to undo all the fixings for the winder mechanism, including the metal holder for the window bottom, move the window away from the mechanism, take the mechanism out, then bring the glass out.

You should be able to leave all the scrapers and quarter light where they are.

I can confirm what I have written above, is incorrect.

I was working on assumptions and not having my door together in years, I had assumed the glass would go in from under-neath, but tried it the other day and it does not! :sad0049:

Quarter light does indeed have to come out if anyone else reads this :|
