A previous owner has put windows in the side of my panel van, its not been done the best, but they are undersized windows which have flexed the panel making it look a bit ****.

I have been thinking of filling the windows back in but am wondering what window options I would have if I opened them out to the normal size, is it just fixed full windows that you can put in a panel van or is there an option of an opening window, eg one with a frame?

I'd recommend filling the holes to be honest. To install correct bus windows you will need to get the entire window aperture body cut off a donor bus. I recently acquired a pair of panel hacking windows and took them straight to the tip to avoid any more sacreligeous acts.

The stock windows are flat and will only fit in the associated bodywork. It's a huge amount of work - though a determined Ozzidog has done it.

The windows used by the panel van conversions are curved to follow the lines of the vehicle. They do not cause panel distortion. These were not the sole preserve of home made conversions. They were also used by the big name converters including later Dormobiles.

Getting regular sized panel van conversion glass and recutting the apertures is probably the most practical option.

You could take it back to a panel van but its not flat steel to fill the holes, so thats tricky. Cuts from a Kombi to do a proper conversions is possible, but thats a hell of a job.

That's what I was thinking, i'm living in Australia now so its hard to find the right windows to do the job right.

I do have a full cut out for the panel behind the driver, but from looking at it I can see its going to be a big job, my plan was to use this and then fill in the back but am wondering if it would be easier just to fill in the the right sized/type of glass.

It will be much easier just to fill in the holes will sheet metal then try to find panel van conversion windows and cut them in. Contact Bern on the Kombi club, he should be able to help you with all the parts you need.

Pict,
As an owner of an Oz panel van, I say find the PO and run him down.... Put it back to the way it should be and be proud to be different...

Does anyone have the dimensions they used for the cut outs on a PV, have found a place that will make custom sliders, but would like the option to use original glass in the future or the option to sell the sliders on.

Also not sure about sliders all round or just in the front, any thoughts?
