My van production date was 1 Dec 71, it has the rectangular engine vent, single rear light cluster, does yours 4 months earlier have the half moon vent and round rear lights? I’m sure there is a prototype history of changes on here somewhere?

Thanks..this was another reason for dropping them both out.. the van has fixed belly pans so hopefully I can detach from the gear lever end and pull it all through. Helpful diagram too

Thanks will do. I might have a look at the fuel tank as I was finding crusty bits blocking the float switch on the top of the carb...I will fit an inline filter in anycase..I’ve picked up a proper solex pic 34-3 to refurb as there was an unreliable shiny empi on it.

Thankyou..Yes I’ve heard it’s best to dump the gear oil out before you drop the engine and box out for the reason you mention..thanks for the reminder..I would have forgotten!

I can no longer find neutral in my dec 71 microbus. 1st has always been tricky to find but suddenly whilst driving there was a big clonk and then no neural.. the clutch disengages gear fine but I cannot find neutral and no longer feels right at all.. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Cheers...
