A brilliant thread, Kalle. Thanks for the pointer from Facebook. Lovely work and perfect inspiration for my (Chrome Yellow) late bay.

    Panel Van Porn

Thought I'd add mine to the thread after mentioning ply... It's a 1970 ex-Swiss Army radio van. Pretty original (apart from a distinct lack of radio equipment), working dual sirens and blue light and 54000km on the clock.

    Panel Van Porn

Did you cut all the ply yourself, or was any of it a kit? What kind of ply did you use? (Sorry if that's a dumb question) It looks great! My panel is full of carpet and I reckon it'd suit ply better....

    Original List price...?

Thanks! I did do the M-plate thing a while back, when I bought the van last year... I've just dug it out from the back of my file. It's planned production date was 23 May 1970, so that'll make it a 1970, won't it? The date confusion is because it was originally sent to the swiss army in 1970...

    Original List price...?

Sounds cheap! Although you could probably have bought a house for that amount of money in 1971........

    Original List price...?

Cool document! Are those the prices just for the conversion? Or for a complete van?

    oooh... fingers crossed... :)

    Original List price...?

I've had a (quick) search but can't find any answer, so firstly, sorry if this has been answered before... I'm running my 1971 VW panel as my company vehicle and last year it was all business, so all the costs went through my accounts. I'm trying to work out its 'benefit in kind', so I could...

    Dumb oil filler question...

The long neck is actually part of the black metal bit with the oil breather. You can see the join, but it's all one piece. (SUbheatadey… That's what i wondered. I have no idea what's in there!!) This is an ex-Swiss military radio van, and the the alternator is original, to power all the extra...

    Dumb oil filler question...

Thanks for the suggestions! Most of the other filler tubes I've seen seem to have the filler cap on top of the black metal bit, whereas mine has another six inches of filler neck, so i was thinking of using a tube of some sort. I just wondered what was in the black metal bit. Is it just a...

    Dumb oil filler question...

I don't think I've ever asked a question about filling oil up before, so sorry if I sound dumb. I've got a 1970 swiss army van, which seem to have a very long oil filler (see pic). Others I've seen appear to be shorter. It's difficult enough getting anything in to top up the oil, but when i do...

    My Swiss Army panel van!

The 'different' is why I wanted it so bad. It's going to be my 'work' van, and I'd been looking at something a lot more modern in a T5. But I couldn't get excited about something that wasn't a bay or a split, and that i couldn't work on myself. And my job is colouring-in. I write and illustrate...

    My Swiss Army panel van!

I joined 'earlybay' last week after spotting this Swiss army panel van, and bought it at the weekend. I had a 270 mile journey home from Norwich to North Wales, and it ran like a dream. A slow dream. :) I pulled up fifty yards from home, stuck the blue light on the roof, and came in the gates...
